ET: Quake Wars ETA?

(McNeil_UK) #1

I’ve searched the forums high and low for an answer to my question but have had no luck.

According to the E3 2006 ET:QW trailer; ET:QW is set to be released this Fall (2006). Is Splash Damage still aiming for this target? If not will the game even be released this year? Is there a more accurate ETA date rather than Fall?

Thanks

The release date had bee pushed to the beginning of 2007 budy

(Joe999) #3

beginning? where do you have that from?

(eiM) #4

think that’s what he’s expecting … actually it has been pushed into year 2007 not the beginning  but i think it should be the beginning^^

(DG) #5

March 2007 is the best guess atm, inferred from Activision financial reports, but nobody’s promising anything.

(Joe999) #6

actually it’s been pushed out of 2006, not directly into 2007. so it could as well be the next duke nukem whenever

i’d already be happy if they say that a beta will come in 2006. but it has to come soon. i don’t have time in october (Wii), nor in november (PS3). so @SD: hurry up, pleaze!

(ayatollah) #7

Seeing as everyone is asking for confirmation on everythingthese days, where is your confirmation Wii will be released in October?!

(Doeden) #8

I so can’t wait 6 months… I wish I could freeze my self until it comes out. That way 6 months goes by in like, 7 seconds.

(Desoxy) #9

Yea, same here… especially because this is my ‘free’ year, only gotta do civilian service. That means so much free time I could fill up with Quake Wars. When I start studying next year it will be greatly reduced… :disgust:
If Quake Wars is going to be released at the beginning of next year there will still be half a year to play it … better than nothing.

Btw. I just remember that I once read a news about that Activision would shed some light on preordering Quake Wars in the end of july, but I never heard of that again (probably because of the delay) - could anyone gimme an update?

If you could participate in the beta when preordering Quake Wars I’d definitely do so. After having seen the alpha in action (although only from videos, it’s a shame) and read the previews and hands ons I’m pretty confident that the beta will already be more fun to play than BF2 ever was (for me), apart from the fact that it’d simply be great to help making the game as perfect as possible.

I heard SD is just taking their time and not really trying hard to fix the problems to hype up to their game. We’re going to be so disappointed when this is another daikatana.

(ayatollah) #11

Yep that is true, I have incriminating photos of them molesting pies. You want them for your site?

(TheKaiser) #12

Oh, I have some incriminating pictures already. These are just rumors from affiliates of the company. We’ll see how good my prophecy is.

it will because it’s the only logical step, or at max they’ll release it at the beginning of november. are you gonna buy it?

at least nintendo aren’t such liars as M$. i’ve been waiting for gears of war (or any other good game) on the 360 for more than a year now and nothing came, gears of war was one of the reasons why i bought the 360. and what does M$ do? they release the game right on the same day when the ps3 gets launched. idiots. i have better to do than to get a 360 game on that day. at least i’ll get dead rising tomorrow

anyway nintendo will give the final details next week on 14th sept. btw: does anyone have details on how the controller is built? i’ve heard something about that it uses 8 infra-red sensors, have nothing concrete though.

both controller and “nunchuk” have 3 axis motion sensors, and I believe they are rf wireless

(Joe999) #15

the nunchuk as well? i thought only the controller.

(Nail) #16

Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers include a three-axis motion sensor.

I also found this:

"The chip senses direction and acceleration by measuring changes in the electrons within it." "Broadcom makes the wireless Bluetooth radio chip that transmits the positional data to the console in real time. All of the components are inexpensive and they are a lot faster than they used to be. That’s how a big backhand stroke by the player gets translated into a virtual stroke in a tennis game."

"…the accuracy of the accelerometers is not good enough to maintain an absolute position without drift. A player might move the controller really rapidly to the right, then slowly back to its starting position, and a small error in the calculation of the acceleration would mean that the game would misinterpret the motion and think the controller is in a different spot. The Wii uses the three LEDs in the control strip to provide a central calibration point that eliminates this problem by recalibrating the controller’s position every so often.

One drawback of this approach is that the Wii remote will only be well calibrated at a certain distance away from the control strip. This appears to be verified by reports from E3 that the controller will seem a little “off” if the player moves too close or far away from the strip. Left, right, up, and down motions are not affected by this, which is what makes the dramatic tennis strokes seen in the E3 demos possible. However, if the player were to get excited by a drop shot and run up close to the TV set, the sensors would be put off."

(Joe999) #17

thanks, have just seen a usage of that in a zelda video where the player uses the controller as a fishing rod and the nunchuck with circular movement as a rattle to bring in the cord. awesome

i hope nintendo goes into more hardware detail next week.

btw: did anyone here have the chance to test the console at GC?

(ayatollah) #18

It was only available to play behind closed doors at Leipzig, invitation only.

(Joe999) #19

i know, but i thought they’d maybe invite SD.

speaking of games n such: you were right chin, everything i said before is messed up now. i just read an announcement that the PS3 is delayed until march in europe <= screw that, screw $ony. and if M$ delays gears of war again now, then screw M$ as well and I’m gonna sell my xbox360 then.

(digibob) #20

Some of us managed to play it, though from what I hear, the selection of games wasn’t as good as E3. I didn’t get around to playing it myself though :frowning:
