ET Problems

(Homeskillet) #1

Ok…im having some really wierd problems with ET. Whenever i am in a server and am playing lna_trickjump, my game runs fine(constant 80 ping). But whenever im playing a different map, such as goldrush oasis, etc etc, i get extreme lag spikes and my ping jumps anywhere between 90-800.

When this first happened i thought…omg fucking cable internet. I called them and asked whats up and apparently(according to them) nothing is wrong with my internet. I also ran spybot searches and norton antivirus so it is not a virus or spyware that is causing this. So im starting to lean towards there being a problem in ET or etmain or something.

My lagometer has constant green spikes located at the bottom of it.The blue line however is running fine so nothing is wrong with the server im in. I also reinstalled ET last night, which did nothing at all. Im flat out of ideas myself, and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

What kind of system do you have (CPU, RAM, vid card)? What are your FPS when you are lagging ?

will probably be shitty fps from maps without much vis basicly drawing too much of whats needed

try lowering your graphics settings, i wouldnt know becase YOU HAVNT TOLD US

Possibly a /rate problem, make sure in options the connection type is set to cable/lan and not isdn or lower.
Alternatively try typing /rate into the console to check current setting, and change to /rate 25000 if need be.

Lagometer description…

On your lagometer you can see the packet traffic.

Top line shows the ‘world updates’ you receive from the server, and how your graphics card is updating the displayed frames.

Blue indicates frames are being rendered in time with the world updates which is good, and yellow indicates frames are being dropped which is bad.

If you are getting a lot of yellow spikes, try and down your ‘snaps’ rating. Also many people are using timenudge -20 which increases the yellow lines. Try to find a timenudge which shows the minimum of yellow lines, so your connection stays smooth, while using timenudge.

Bottom line shows the packets your receiving.

  • Red = Lost Packets/Packet Loss
  • Yellow = Damaged/Rejected Packets
  • Green = Received Packets are OK

Cable broadband: whatever your ping, it shouldn’t really be more than negative a quarter your ping rate.

ps. what conn. speed are you on ? are you with NTL aswell ?

Also, you can always set picmip 3 to see if its mainly a graphical prob. :moo: :eek2: :drink:
