ET Problems :(

I’m new here and was pointed here by a clanmate … anyway … I have asked everyone I play ET with and nothing that they have suggested has worked so I thought I’d post here … Whenever I’m playing Et , I will be in the server for about 5 - 20 secs before it freezes … I have tried reinstalling ( all that did was get me 5 minutes before it froze ) , I have tried Updating Drivers ( I updated them on…(same ones) both my computers ( bad and good ) and it works on bad one but not good one …) … I might have tried other stuff but ET hasn’t been working for me since beginning of Dec. ( on good computer … )) … What do you guys suggest I do …???

hmmm quick questions to try and limit the answer

are you using a Nvidia card?

does it only freeze on punkbuster servers?

if the answer to both of those was yes then downgrade your drivers to 42.xx and you will play fine as the newer nvidia drivers wont let you play on pb enabled servers if you have a old geforce card

Card is Geforce 4 Ti 4200 … Nvidia drivers are 53.(something) ( latest) and I haven’t tryed none PB servers but it’s very possible that they are because I mostly try getting it to work on my clan’s server and it’s PB Enabled … and the problem with degrading the drivers to 43.xx is the fact that it’s my dad’s computer and he likes to have the latest drivers

Lars, I can guarantee that it’s a problem with the drivers. A couple regulars on a server I admin had the same problem and it was fixed when they rolled back the Nvidia drivers. Go ahead and try it, if it doesn’t work then just install the new drivers again, but if it does (and it should) then talk to your dad to see if there is a compromise you guys can reach.

Well, what graphics card and drivers does your other computer have?

drivers are exact same one … They are 53.xx for Windows XP just like the good computer … but graphics card is different … it’s GeForce2 Mx/Mx 400

ya thats why I had the problem with my ti4200 but I bought a new fx5600 gfx card which solved it, and if you have a really old card probabaly wont matter, also your dad probabaly wouldnt notice what drivers the comp was using anyway unless he has a daily task of lookin at device manager o.0

It’s definitively the nVidia driver, I had no problems with ET (GeForce2) but other games that run smoothly for years all of a sudden froze my computer, I downgraded to 44.xx and everything works again.

A clanmat had the freezing problem with ET, they also appeared after he installed the 52.xx drivers and disappeared after he downgraded again to 44.xx.

Is there anything that Can make so the drivers don’t have to be changed ?? Something you think he would agree with ( something that doesn’t mess with his computer , require him to change something he likes , or boot the drivers back to 42.xx) that would make it so the drivers would be compataible with ET or make ET compataible with the Drivers

only option you have if you stick with your current drivers is to play on non-punkbuster servers other then that there is absolutly nothing you can do except roll-back to get ET to work :frowning:

make it a dual boot machine, one boot for you one for your dad!
just run your boot with the old nvidia drivers.

problem solved.

The 53. drivers add nothing to the older Ti cards. i did some extensive graphics benchmarking with them, and if anything they were a little flakier than the 43. series. Tell your Dad he’s got the wrong drivers for his card’s model.

I’m a Dad too - and my 12-year old plays ET and I made sure he has the 43 drivers for his Ti4800SE - tell your Dad not to be such a meanie! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Aye, nice card that, it’s the one I had before I upgraded…and I’m not playing with the HairyPlums name now for the very reasons you quote hee hee…using my ‘old’ one, LeTene (inactive =UDS=).

Damn UDS. Went through that fkin demo of us v you lot on Oasis. Swear down it was such a difficult game at that time… though looking back the improvements would hopefully differ that. :>
