et problem

(cmaster) #1

Hey

I’m trying to make a map. I’m running linux. My bsp files made by gtkradiant work fine, (I tested on my windows partition and they run). But when i attempt to load the exact same bsp file on linux, the game loads, i can muck round in spectator, but as soon as i join a team, the game locks up. Any idea’s whats going on? I can load maps in pk3’s that i’ve got from other places fine, eg maps i downloaded from fileplanet, official maps, maps i got from servers etc. I just tried my map in a pk3 as well, but it still doesn’t let me join a team. But I don’t see why it wont let me join a team, I’ve already loaded the map and can move round, so why is it screwing up? and how to fix?

Thx

Could you post your etconsole.log file, using these cvars;

seta g_log "ETServer.log"
seta logfile "3"
seta g_logsync "1"

set developer 2
seta g_scriptdebug 1

map yourmap

You might want to set your coordinates right using the SunPlugin

(shagileo) #4

Yup, set the correct mapcoords:

(look at screenshots)

Log is attached. It doesn’t seem to say very much though. I don’t see how setting the map coords could possibly make a difference. Btw before i played round with the problem so much, the game wouldn’t freeze it would just go back to main menu whenever i tried to join a team, and told me it couldn’t find the spawn points. I’ll try setting the map coords now, but its the other map i tested ran fine on windows without it done, it just wouldn’t load on linux.

(cmaster) #6

Map coords dont make a difference. Still freezes. I tried on windows again, the map works there, but it does a few odd things, probly coz i made the script badly :stuck_out_tongue:

(cmaster) #7

k i just tried copying the windows map files onto linux again. It worked perfectly, so i tried compiling again, and again it works perfectly. I duno wtf is up with that, but as long as it doesnt die on me again then i’m happy. Ty for help guys

(dutchmeat) #8

post your etconsole.log, not etserver.log

(cmaster) #9

lol how’d you know it was gonna be broke again

k heres the one you asked for

(It’s a dif map now, but still does same thing)

i had to cut some of the earlier stuff out (r init sound init etc, all worked normally anyway) coz of the forums limit to text file size.

(cmaster) #10

looks like it may be same problem as this:

http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15312

i’m gonna try its solution.

(cmaster) #11

its still giving me devmode-> G_Script_GetEventIndex(), unknown event: playerstart

but it works if i do
/sv_pure 0
/devmap (mapname)
/developer 2
/generatetracemap

then join

so why doesnt it generate this tracemap automatically?
i don’t have this problem with windows version so theoretically it’s generating the tracemap on windows right?

[/QUOTE]

You are probably missing the script_multiplayer and the script file.

(cmaster) #13

yeah lol. i havent made one yet, didn’t realise it would complain about that :stuck_out_tongue:

any solutions to my other questions?

and when im in gtkradiant if i right click on the view window, it goes into the view where you can ‘fly around’ in the map. However if i press an arrow key (except the right one which does nothing) it goes out of the ‘fly around’ view. Any ideas why its doing this? I’m having to move around with scroll wheel and mouse turns :S

ty

one word:

CHAPSLOCK

(Pegazus) #15

yeah, just press capslock again like Merlin1991 said :stuck_out_tongue:

(cmaster) #16

caps lock didnt work. So for some reason i felt like giving numlock a try (probly coz light was on) that fixed it
I knew all it would take was a button press but i couldnt think what button it would be. Your caps lock idea inspired me though :stuck_out_tongue:

ty guys,

now i jsut have to find out why linux doesnt generate that tracemap automatically, and preferably how to make it do it

(isbowhten) #17

my PC also does not create tracemap automatically but still this error with freezing ET does not always occur…
well, i always set mapcoords first.
mapcoordsmins x-coordinate-upper-left y-coordiante-upper-left
mapcoordsmaxs x-coordinate-lower-right y-coordinate-lower-right
the tracemap is made for the command map even if you will never use it cause you can also paint a command map on your own.
as the command map is a square your mapcoords have to be a square too…
this means:
if your map is from -200 to 200 wide(x-values) but from 300 to -300 “high”(y-values) the x-values of the mapcoordsmins have to be expanded to 300 too !!!

in other words: y-upper-left minus y-lower-right = x-lower-right minus x-upper-left

(Pegazus) #18

in other words: y-upper-left minus y-lower-right = x-lower-right minus x-upper-left

Reminds me of math class
