ET-Pro 3

(evilsock) #1

Just wanted to say that I managed to scrounge someones BB connection for a few hours tonight and finally got to play ET-Pro 3. Excellent stuff  - plays extremely well. Bit of a shock for me of course, I’ve been playing RtCW 1.1 for a few months - I’d forgotten how much pace and timing count tbh  - Maybe a week, 10 days away from being as I was, but keck me, I had some mint, mint games tonight

Nice one!

your exchange getting done anytime soon? BB even coming to this little neck of the countryside by xmas. Bet it gets delayed, and then the line is too far or some crap.

(evilsock) #3

July so I’m told but it wouldn’t be a surprise to find that I’m ‘out of the target area’ either tbh - heh, I’ll just have to sell my house and move if it comes to that.

July seems to be the new BT trigger time for all the exchanges that they have now decided to do. My mate in teh country just got a mail and its some 3rd party called ‘eclipse’ offering the BB to him… Hes over the moon, now he’ll finally be able to see me when im killing him!

I’m crossing my fingers for you m8, anyway ETPro 3.0.X has a very good anti-lag system, the next version which will be introduced in 3.0.2 soon is even better. I believe a lot of players will be happy with 3.0.2 since its truely ‘aim on what you see’. The curious people can test it out already with the latest bugfix releases.

the activation dates are here

and if your goin with adsl then check out www.adslguide.org they do nice overage of all the isp’s in the forum

That ‘eclipse’ BB service is apprently rather good too if not a tad overpriced and underspeed compared to BY / NTL, especially with there free upgrades coming.

21/07/04 is the activation date - w00t!

It’ll be a BT DSL fwiw -> which brings me onto a n00b-ish question; Has anyone seen those ‘Tiscali’ style deals where you can get 3x, 5x, 10x connections? I’ve been told (and it might be keck tbh) that you can be outside of the ‘target area’ - ie the distance between your house and the exchange is too great but still have it (DSL) at a reduced speed.

I’m prepared for some smug tw@t at BT to tell me I can’t have it, but would the 3x be possible at a greater distance? (I guess voice comms would be a no-no but it’d be like ISDN speeds which for me would still be a bargain

dont get it with BT… its like signing up for AOL
>.<

(evilsock) #12

I hear ya - despise BT tbh - I’ll try to get it through Nildram maybe - they sent me the notification e-mail.

btw - I played ET-Pro 3.01 (?) on 56k tonight - really surprised again - very playable - Fuel Dump (vanilla) was virtually unplayable for me but supposing tonight wasn’t one of those’ flukey’ nights, I got some excellent games in - yay Bani and the team \o/ !!

(ElderNewb) #13

probably crazy for defending them but i signed up with BT and got the basic 512k connection package. Able to get 5 pcs running et, all with a decent 80 ping connection

(evilsock) #14

Yup - I just did a similar thing for my Dad @ his offices - they have one of those really old BT DSL business deals - the 512K link is shared to 9 pc’s in the office, works for RtCW and ET also - 'bout the only time I’ve ever had anything good to say about 'em (BT).

*offtopic question - anyone here have experience of small to medium sized digital PBX systems? I’m looking to replace an old panasonic analog 3 line system for a digital one with maybe a 1mb pipe (so maybe 16 PSTN lines) - any advice here would be greatly appreciated. Something that allows call routing with voice over IP would be handy also (home working with virtual extensions).
