ET Port Settings

(Ted) #1

ET plays fine when I connect directly to the internet but I cannot see any servers when I connect through my router.

I’ve tried setting up my router to open ports 27950 through to 27952 without success. Has anyone found a definitive way of solving this problem.

My router is a Linksys BEFSR41.

I used to play throuhg a router, didn’t have to change anything from the default settings. It might be a problem specific to your model of router though.

It talks from a dynamic udp (not tcp!) on your side to whatever port the server is configured for, and talks back to you on the same pair. If you don’t have high udp ports filtered then it will work, even NATted, with no configuration changes.

The master server browser is on 27950/udp, the actual game servers can be on any port the admin chooses. 27960-69/udp are popular. Try opening those.

Finally got it sorted out after many calls to Linksys Technical Support. Those guys were very helpful.

The problem was the latest firmware I had installed a few weeks ago. When I re-installed an earlier version everything was fine.

My router is a BEFSR41 V2.
The latest firmware is 1.45.6.
The firmware that solved the problem is 1.43.1.

Hope this may be of help to anyone else having similar problems.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly in the latest patch caused the problem - do you know?

Probably cos 99% of game servers use port 27960

I’ve got a linksys, enable upnp and forward ports 27950-28000 to your internal ip

I’ve no idea what the problem was with the patch. The tech had me try a number of things (which didn’t work) then suggested the older version of the patch.
