ET not saving settings

(colic) #1

I dont play ET much cos of niggly little things that annoy me and I have another one.

When I load up to play a game through the ASE my settings are totaly different to the ones I had previously. I like to run it at 1024x768 in windowed mode.

But everytime I try and load a new game up through the ASE it goes back down to 800x600!

Also any key changes I make in the previous game seem to have gone back to a default set of settings (may be wrong on this one not sure)

Does this happen to everyone? :frowning:

p.s it is nothing to do with gametype as I am only playing on a normal server not shrub, pro and different gametypes!

I get the same problem but only when the game crashes. It would be nice to have this problem fixed has it does become very annoying

Mine reverts to 800x600 all the time ,but my key changes do stay in.,it would be good to sort it out.

short answer: put all your settings in autoexec.cfg

long possible answer: this thread might throw up some ideas, possibly its related to the thing in the readme -

Cvar issues

Most options that you would consider wanting to use can be set from somewhere in the UI (user interface) - from the options or controls menu, or in one of the in-game menus. Further, chances are that if an option isn’t set in the UI somewhere, it’s not relevant to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. You should, therefore, use the UI options instead of console commands to set options wherever possible. Console commands may produce unexpected results and should generally be avoided.

The following commands are some of the common ones that expert players may be familiar with from other games - but do NOT work in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory:

\g_synchronousclients (removed)
\r_stencilbits (crashes game)
\r_texturebits (defaults to 0 after crash, visual artifacts)
\sv_reconnectlimit (not functional)
\r_smp (set to 1 is not supported)
\g_drawammowarning (not functional)
\r_debugsort (crashes PC)
\r_showimages (not supported)

Graphics Issues

  • 32-bit vs. 16-bit Color Depth

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory defaults to your desktop color depth. We strongly recommend that you play it in 32-bit color depth. You may change this setting to 16-bit, but it is not officially supported. If you decide to make this change, you may notice graphics problems and artifacts on your screen. Also, during preliminary testing, there was not much of a performance increase by making this switch. Please do so at your own risk.

Also check ASE options>games>et has “player name” and “config file” blank.

I’ve also seen this when playing a vanilla ET server vs. playing one running Shrub. Shrub remembers it’s own settings so you need to change it when on a Shrub server. This was the same in RTCW.
