ET maps <3

#1

I can recommend playing some ET till DB gets some content.

ET has over 1000 maps. 200 of them are good, looks good and are addictive to play. 20 of them are A+ clan maps.

I hope SD have a plan this time around, and not ending up with another abandoned game.

I hope for real SD have contacted every ET mapper they know of, for DB content. Same old 5-6 DB maps are already worn out.

Also, I hope for SD and our sake, that SD doesnt repeat the mistake from ETQW where ranked servers dont allow custom maps. ET had an army of private mappers and content creators, where SD takes a bit too much credit on the success of ET, which is seen in their releases after ET (ETQW, Brink so far), where they try to make it without the playerbase “on board”. DB future is currently in the dark, without knowledge of SDK, rentable servers, and custom content. Could happend, again, that lessons have not been learned for the 3rd time. SD has said officially they want quality over quantity, and Im guessing they hope people will accept being bored with same maps. Doesnt sound like a strategy. Sounds more like “eeh dont ask, we’re busy” kind of deal. Well, sure enough, there will come a time where content be needed, or people will leave.

A tiny list of joy.

I believe this has been discussed a lot before but it was clear that SD is not planning on implementing ET maps 1 to 1. If you noticed, Bridge is Goldrush and Terminal is Oasis. Same objectives but not the same layout. I also think it’s a mistake ET mappers are not contacted (and paid) to work on maps but oh well…

(jazevec) #3

And Chapel is Battery, I guess ? Similarly stacked and hard to attack.

Actually, for me it’s Underground that feels the most like W:ET. W:ET had maps with more brutal chokepoints and smaller number of routes. The last objective on Bridge - “gold rush” - feels like it’s surrounded by pillars rather than normal routes, there are so many ways to go.

Ceres I know.

SD has never made it without haveing an army of custom mappers/content makers, who are working for fun with community servers.
ET would live 90% less time without its army of custom content.

We dont even know, if there will be community servers. Its as if, SD dont even know how their own world works.

Custom servers is the golden pillars, without them, you remove the network, and game will stop growing after a few months.
With custom servers, people can form connections and networks. Its PC gaming 101, and should be decades old info.
Wit healthy growing network, new nodes/sites pop up, which in it self will prolong the game.

  • Sound content
  • Statistics content
  • Maps content
  • Competition sites/content
  • Community forums (where people feel at home and come back to talk to regulars, like “public clans/communities”)
  • Custom server scripts
  • Clan team site/forum

Official PR machine is 100x weaker than an growing organism that grow by it self.
Removing / Not providing the golden pillars that are controlable servers and SDK, the game living days will be incredibly short.

Since DB is sold a service, and not as a “new game every year”, there is hope that “Making money 101” will allign with “PC Gaming 101”.

But, we live in a world that is upside down, where control is more important than informed decisions.

Bridge is entirely Goldrush. Build EV in DB = build tank in ET. Destroy the barrier in DB = Destroy the barriers in ET. Get 2 objectives to the EV in DB = get 2 objectives to the truck in ET. They are even in the same order with quite similar attack routes.

You could easily make a DB themed version of Radar, Supply, etc…

Steam workshop ftw!

(Ceres) #8

^ With that being said, i believe chewonthis, or warmfoam in this game, will surprise us with good news soon

I’ve asked SD months ago to contact RTCW & W:ET mappers.

We saw what happend to paying mods for Steam at first test. People stole others content and recieved payment for it. Would suck if for example the guy who made supplydepot is not contacted, and someone else reworks his map, and someone else get payment. Would be terrible.

(Volcano) #10

it really does need custom maps if they intend on getting this game to last and well the current maps aren’t great

#11

I know. SD has shown from the past that they are struggling to accept or understand this.

ETQW SDK was released about 8? months after release of the game! Once new maps come out, its taken even more months for first test of new maps to come out. Thats about a year of full waiting.

Would help if SD realised the competition for gamers attention is very sharp.
The true way to keep players invested in the game, is the making of friends, and new acquaintances, gathered from playing on the same server over and over.

Credits, XP mathers not.
Seeing your friends on the server matters.
Lans will be made. Forums threads will be made. Competitions will be made. Teamspeak servers will be made. Sites for covering all kind of stuff for the game will be made.

5 man lobbies matters too litte. Its too little to make stuff grow healthy.
All the small communities need all their own home, a server, forum and teamspeak/voip.

What is causing SD not to see what effects game health/longetivety?

God please no Radar with how strong sniper are on this game :expressionless:

(Volcano) #13

fine ill remake Battery just for you Adeto

1: sad to see SD slagged over poor decisions by Lack’o’vision and Bethesmeh

2: Railgun

SD is seeing all these things, the problem is that Free2Play as a business model(waves at Nexon) means that things have to be kept ‘in-doors’ for it to be profitable. Allowing a lot of outside influences or ways for the community to stop using the main services means the model can’t be applied anymore. This mostly applies to the whole server discussion.

To a degree this also applies to maps if they just allow people to do whatever they want. Think a system where mappers can send in a playable version to SD and they test them in doors and pick 2/3 to be played over 2 months on all servers, then a community vote and the most voted map gets added permanently(kinda like CSGO does with its operation maps). That way we can have a proper test platform for new maps, and get rid of all the completely broken and ****ty maps up front. Things like Trickjump mods or Promod won’t happen as it simply doesn’t work with the modern F2P model, if it comes it will come from the devs themselves. That way they control what things are effected and what is not, which is the key to F2P.

edit: before you say ‘but ET is free’, ET was supposed to be an expansion for RtCW but because the SP was broken or w/e they released the MP as freeware. Essentially it was a failed project from day 1, but because the MP was finished they decided to release it and it’s sdk to the public and it took off. Which was 90% because of the community taking it somewhere because ET on release was pretty broken as-well.

(Rémy Cabresin) #16

Battery isn’t even that open. If you go 5 snipers on that you’ll still get rekt, but last stage Radar is just all open space and if you have 2/3 good snipers(DB level of gun dmg and instagib) it will just be a constant meatgrind

(Szakalot) #17

radar discussion is moot as it would not work without selectable spawns

#18

adeto, I know. I have researched SD, id software, their projects, and business ideas many times and with help from others.

I have not seen big signs of SD being aware of past big mistakes yet though.

(BioSnark) #19

Via the magic of teleportation, nothing is impossible for community maps except actually playing them.
