ET: Mapping contest 2004

(DG) #41

btw reyalP suggested updating the “guidelines” with points that have come up in various places, hence it now looking a bit more bloated despite saying much the same as was already intended. I had a quick go here, though this is NOT final in any way (the other sites havent even looked at it yet) and thoughts on it are welcome (#11 i just cobbled up after remembering having problems asking them to put something on before).

The guildlines that GF.Ace wrote down are great. If mappers would follow them and adjust their ideas it might mean that not only are their maps original and good looking, they are also usable for clan games!

I am still considering if I want to join. I am just finishing X-Dam for ET this week together with Ringa so I guess I will take a break from mapping for a week or two after the release. It is an interesting challange though…

If only there weren’t this 8-15 minute timelimit… Oh well…

(pack) #45

Och

Just don’t overestimate the time that’s needed for a map. Clanbase considers railgun/radar to be 15 minute maps, oasis a 20 minutes one.

Sometimes small changes could decrease the time neded for a map.

You could increase spawntimes of defenders a bit, or decrease spawn of attackers. Give attackers a forward spawn.
For example Goldrush could have a shorter timelimit if only allies would have some sort of forward spawnflag (or spawn like 50 yards closer after first tank barrier is passed).
Remember that the maps are meant to be played in SW mode - not necessarily in campaign. In Sw mode maps are played 2 or 4 consecutive times, in campaign mode only one time

As a general rule just don’t overdo in objectives and tank barriers

Hi!
The contest is a great idea!
I hereby submit my new and thoroughly beta-tested map Berserk to the contest. I will also write directly to the four web sites hosting the contest.
The map Berserk can be downloaded here:
http://arduis.enemy-territory.se/files.php?c=k
(File name: berserk.pk3).
The file date is 2003-11-23. File size 10 Mb.
The ReadMe_berserk.txt is inside the .pk3-file.
No screenshots available (yet).
Big thanks to all the people who helped me with the map!

prod
Any word?
A deadline of sorts would help me prioritize my maps…

(pack) #50

Well, eh

“Draft rules are being reviewed”

Sorry this doesn’t go any faster…

(G0-Gerbil) #51

I don’t want to rush anyone - far from it given my own slow progress.
I just wondered if there was even a ball-park final date just to give me something to aim at

(michi.be) #52

how many people are working on a map atm??
and then will be the deadline??

(G0-Gerbil) #53

Well, in theory I’ve got 3 on the go:

MML Helms Deep (very near proper alpha)
MML Station (still in the works)
MML Church SE (extended version of original map including outside areas)

I doubt I’ll finish all 3, but 2 would be nice - hence why I’m curious about even a vague guess deadline.
