ET: Lost sound on my G5 iMac....Help!!!

Hi.

I have a brand new iMac G5. I’ve been playing ET on it for the past week, enjoying the improved framerate over my P4 1.7GHz Gentoo box.

I started up ET today and for some inexplicable reason I can’t get any sound. I deleted everything ET-related on the drive, re-installed, and still no sound. All of my other sound-related apps work fine. I did the delete/reinstall scenario multiple times to no avail. I even deleted, rebooted, and reinstalled. No dice. So much for my uptime.

Every delete cycle included killing the prefs file etc–there was no ET-related stuff left on the HD except the installer package.

I haven’t yet re-installed the OS but that seems unlikely to be the problem since I have sound in all of my other applications.

Anyone have any ideas? Please?

Dunno if it helps, but here’s the sound section of my etconfig.cfg:

seta com_soundMegs “24”
seta s_chunksize “2048”
seta s_channels “2”
seta s_bits “16”
seta s_wavonly “0”
seta s_defaultsound “0”
seta s_mixPreStep “0.05”
seta s_mixahead “0.2”
seta s_khz “22”
seta s_doppler “1”
seta s_separation “0.5”
seta s_musicvolume “0.5”
seta s_volume “0.8”

your sound cvars are fine as they are default, sounds like bit of an odd problem, you tried reinstalling your soundcard driver?

Thanks, interesting suggestion.

If this were a Windoze box or Linux box I’d go right ahead and do that. However this is a bone stock iMac G5 and I haven’t a freaking clue how to go about this! I’ll have to search around to figure out how.

Well, this solved the problem (took only three calls to Apple support since I apparently wasn’t putting the right search terms into the KB search).

Thanks! Back to fragging!
