ET: looses connection

(KaiserSoze) #1

Hi all

Both me & my wife plays ET but for some reason we can’t play on the same server - When we both use the same ADSL connection, the first thing that happens is that PB kicks us for having the same cdkey, but it’s not the same. When we reconnect ET disconnects with the error: cg_parsepacketsintities (or something like that).

I have an old (slow) cable connection i’m not using, so I tried to hook up one of my computers to that and try joining the same server - then there is no problem.

Any input or solutions are very welcome!!

ps. The only server we both can play on is the one i’m hosting on a 3. computer - When we join that localy thers no problem. :banghead:

I’d imagine the problem is that when on the ADSL you only have one WAN (internet) IP address, how the connection is shared (router?) doesn’t know which PC to send the ET data to. This is proved by you connecting one PC through your old cable modem and it working fine - u probably had two separate IP addresses.

I don’t know your exact solution as i only play on one PC at a time (2nd one is on a TV) but I think u can specify what port ET uses by adjusting the shortcut parameters? Then u could setup your router to forward those ports to the right PC

Hope u find the solution

AFAIK, there was a solution posted, but i can’t currently locate it. It involved modifying either the shortcut or an INI file so that the second copy of ET used a different port number than the first.

It could be that this was on a different game forum. Maybe this hint will prod someones memory?

Add the following to your shortcut (1st computer): +set net_port 27960

Do the same on all other computers, but use a unique port number each time (27961, 27962…).

Thanks Sauron, I knew you could specify the port to be used from the shortcut file (just wasn’t sure how)

This should sort you out now “verbal”
