ET linux server without X?

(jaeger420) #1

Hi! 1st-time poster here! Man, u gotta love wolf! Now I really wanna have my own server!

So forgive me if this is posted elsewhere, but I spent a good hour already trying to figure this one out:

Can I install ET in Linux without having X?

I want to run a dedicated ET server on a machine that sits in a server camp, with no monitor or gfx card, and obviously no X libs. I’d rather not install all the X crap since I’ll never even get to use it!

Can this be done? I tried running the installer with ‘–nox11’, but I don’t think that does what it sounds like.
Any suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx, Jaeger

Yes. Just run the installer without any arguments. Be sure to use the second release of ET verson 2.56 (filename: “et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run”) if you’re running RedHat 9, to avoid glibc problems.

HTH.

Yes, it works without any problems. Just run ET with “+set dedicated 1”, and maybe something like “+exec server.cfg”.

It’s a good idea to run ET via screen, do a “man screen” for more information.
