ET Game Performance

(Migraine) #1

Im having some pretty crappy performance with Et…

For example, on the rail gun map, i spend most of my time at 10-12 fps in gunfights. A demo ive recorded of that map (5 mins of gameplay) gets a timedemo score of 17 fps. 640x480 or 1600x1200 makes no difference whatsoever to my FPS.

Current Rig:

Athlon 1000Mhz overclocked to 1333Mhz
FSB: 133Mhz
768MB 133Mhz SDRAM (Hunk megs set to 256)
Asus Geforce FX 5600.

Ideas anyone?

p.s. I just trieg turning atmospheric effects off… 0.5fps increase :banghead:

if fps doesnt change when you increase res, its all limited by your cpu (not too surprising given your puc is much older than your gfx). 17fps is pretty bad for a 1.33ghz cpu though! what sort of benchmark scores you get?

Try installing the latest drivers or tweaking the config.

I have a Duron 1GHz, GeForce 2 TI, running at 1024x768 with most details set to low I can play quite decently.

k, i think there is something wrong with your comp setup, for example my setup is:

Athlon 1Ghz @ 1.3 GHz
FSB 100MHz
512MB SDRAM (hunk set to default)
Abit Siluro Geforce FX 5200

and on medium/high settings @ 800*600, i get at least 40 fps.

maybe you have loads of programs runing in the background?

IRC, E-Mail, Motherboard monitor…

Little things basicly. yeah, they take a few cycles, but no where near 20-30 fps worth!

It could be some whacky motherboard setting or something…

p.s. ive tried different drivers (Nvidia + Asus), and this is my 2nd windows 2000 install.

I got a big improvement from going to 16 bit color and low res (800x600). Nothing else made a big difference. Well, turning foliage and fog off both did, but those are cheat protected.

That is with a gf2 ti (which is not much different from a gf4 mx).

well, smeg.

Turned the PC off last night, now this morning it wont even switch on.
well, it does for 3-4 seconds, then switches off again.

That motherboard+ram+CPU upgrade is looking more and more tempting :eek2:

Try setting your FSB back to 100 I had exactly the same problem on an Intel BX chipset @133 with RTCW gfx settings made no difference and it underperformed. Mainly because the AGP bus was out of spec I think.

Domi doesn’t have the same problem because he’s at 100FSB I suspect that is the reason.

Ive finally caved in and bought an Athlon 2500+, DDR ram and nforce2 mobo. Arriving tomorrow.

If that doesnt fix it, ill go dynamite myself

You’ll have to change your name when you get that beastie, Migraine will not be fitting, do something like HappyHead for you will be a happy chappy  .
