ET freezes with an infinite sound loop!!!

Hey guys, i’m a bit fed up with this errors which appears quite often… it’s so pissing off. The problem is that many times I enter a server, the game freezes within the first 20 seconds in a sound loop… At the 6 loop or so, this freakin windows appears saying that ET has to close due to some kind of problem. (I’m using Windows XP).

I got a GF4Ti4200 and a Asus A7N8X, ¿What the porblem might be? Also, i must say i’m not the only one having this problem as everyone I know has experienced this problem.

BTW: I have another problem to, the video settings reset everytime I open the game… In my profile i clearly selected 1024 but everytime I enter the deafult 800x600 resolution it’s on and i have to keep switching it back to 1024. :angry:

which version of ET are you running? I’ll assume the initial one or with the 1.02 update - the resolution reset i think is fixed in the latest 2.60. I think most mods are still to be updated for this recent version though so if you’re mostly playing shrub or etpro or whatever you might want to wait a little.

anyway to work around the 800x600 issue - which is usually only happens when the last time you played it was a mod, right? Then just create a file in “etmain” called autoexec.cfg (just create a text file with notepad, and rename it - being sure it’s not called autoexec.cfg.txt if your Windows is set to ‘Hide extensions for known file types’ [open any folder and go to Tools>Folder Options>View tab]) and add:
r_mode 6

as for the soundloop lockup, maybe try some different drivers for your video card and motherboard?

Thank you very much… I’ll try updating coz im not sure if im running the latest version. Ill also try changing the drivers. :slight_smile:

I get that too. It happens when I connetc to a server which does a file download (even it happens when downloading a campaign pk3).

It’s just the file download bug, there’s probably some memory corrupted which causes ET to crash is different ways: The sound loop + lockup you mention, instant ET death (ET just disappears and you are at the desktop), and some other weirdness.

LIke DG, I recommend you upgrade to 2.60 ASAP, as this fixes the download bug.

I have that problem too that game freezes and sound loops when just have connected to a server. I’m not sure but i think it have something to do with PunkBuster :bash: …or it could be my crappy graphic-card… :blah:

… or you could read the replies and discover that you should upgrade to 2.60…

I used to get this sound lockup and crash ALL the time. Turned out it was my PSU not giving enough juice to my system. New uprated one sorted it all out.

I had the sound loop when overclocking my system. Stopped overclocking and everything was ok.

Bind f8 s_stop

When its does the sound lockup…press f8 as fast as you can… and it will stop the sound that is frozen and ya dont get the boot…maybe-usually-hopefully…
