akways wanting to help my fellow ET players.
ET Freezes computer completely.
An impression of a Punkbuster employee telling the latest concernee that the only solution is to play on non-Punkbuster servers…

(btw i am not sayin PB is to blame fo your problem - i am stupid)
OK - Here are my system specs, (prepare to gasp)
p4 1.8ghz socket 423
Intel board, nothing onboard
ATI Jetway Radeon 9600se
512 pc800 rambus rdram
seagate 40gb hdd, wd 120gb hdd
creative sound blaster live!
I put the system through a format with no fixes, and also after the format, my et didnt lock up, but instead it just kicked me for Blocked O/S Privelges (bit stupid as i’m the only admin) so i tried updating via pbweb.exe and instead of just kicking, my computer has reverted back to just freezing.
It is a driver/PB issue. I installed the latest nforce drivers from evga.com and it crashed my system. I had to roll my pc back and install the drivers from nvidia.com to resolve the issue.
Hi all,
I also had the same thing.
After I joined an PB server, all hell broke loose!
My system did a hard reboot the moment it recieved the checks from PB.
Playing on a non-PB server didn’t give me any problems.
But I wanted to play on a PB server, so I began to search.
And I did all kinds of things, removing utils, software, update drivers,
yes, even removing my SP2!
I reinstalled ET like 10 times, update everyting, and still it did a hard reboot
after connecting to a PB server.
I was getting disperate at that time, hey, who wouldn’t, after 30 reboots! :banghead:
But then I did something, witch I would expect THE LAST to be at fault.
I removed the USB cable that connects my “JetFlash 512MB stick” into my PC.
And guess what?.. yep, NO MORE hard reboot when connecting to a PB server!
Go figure!
That stupid USB cable was the problem!!.. MY GOD!!
I also have other stuff connected through USB, like my mouse and DVD-writer, but it’s
only THAT USB-cable connecting my 512 MB stick into my PC who was at fault!
As a final test, did the test 3 times again… always on the same server.
(games.skynet.be --> ET2_5 (etpro 3.2.0))… PB enabled server.
When my USB cable-connecter (with my JetFlash mem stick) was plugged
into my PC… hard reboot as soon the connections (checks) was done at
PB (checked with the ingame-console open).
With the cable plugged out… No hard reboot, all normal!
I gave that information to “Evenbalance”, and they thanked me and will examine it further.
Hope this info helps.
Greetzzz,
FileNotFound.
Hmm interesting
Thanks for that info FnF.
I’ve got an external plugged in to my pc… but its never given me problems till now. Very interesting indeed.
I’ll give it a try.
ALSO Update: I grabbed another pb folder off a friend, who can play on the servers i go on just fine. And tried it, no longer needs a hard reboot, instead ET just stops responding, sound loops but the computer does not completely freeze. I’ll give this USB thing a try. Thanks again dude.
EDIT: Another update, tried the USB. But no go, had a brainwave also. I could try removing the sound card drivers. That might do something perhaps. Either way thanks again.
Ive found that" bearshare" was causing the 1.189 pb lockups for me after reading elsewhere that “Getright” download manager was the cause for some people on another forum, so start looking outside the normal “oh its gotta be a driver” problem…im not saying it isnt in all cases but it seems alot of other stuff is P***ing off PB aswell these days.
Just to add to the confusion, It happened to me today, but instead of a total computer crash, my ET would just get a GPF and kick out. I tried this like 5 times. The cause turned out to be that I was running the Visual Studio 2003 and the Visual Studio 6 development environments, and for some reason ET/PB had a problem with that. I shut down the two devel anvironments and that fixed it!
I often take a break from programming by playing a map or two, and since it had always worked before, it again points to PB being the problem.
Anyway, strange problem indeed. I think PB is reading and/or writing memory that it should not be messin’ with…
Gettin same error, get a bluescreen then reboot, then get a message sayingyour system has recovered from a major system error. All i play is etpro 3.2.0 also as others have said but it doesnt happen everytime, i was gonna reformat but i guess it wont do anything. i also downloaded the latest nividia drivers to try fix problem, it didnt fix but it did make the problem less frequent, maybe if everyone could say if they are using nvidia that are getting this error?
Well i’ve got an ATI 9600se, so that kinda broadens the spectrum a bit too :S

Version 1.190 of the PB Client for ET has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This is a maintenance release.
Well lets hope this fixes it.
EDIT apparently its fixed now
bump
It seems to be working better now, only getting kicked for blocked o/s. Anyone else having the same problem?
Disregard that last comment
Works like a dream now. I’d say its officially fixed.
WEOOOOOEEOOEOEOEOET!!11… I’m done, thanks for all your help guys.
