ET forcing 16bit?

I have no idea why this happens… It doesn’t happen in RTCW, but for some reason ET is forcing 16bit color. I’d use the preset “fast” mode, and i’d get all sorts of display issues with jaggies and flickering walls, so I figured it was from the 16bit zbuffer depth, I check and it turns out it’s using 16bit color mode. even if I set the display to the maximum quality preset, it still sets 16bit color and it’s really annoying to play with the grainy looks and display errors of 16bit color :(. I’ve tryed setting it to desktop color depth (32) and it uses 16, and selecting 32bit still comes up with 16bit.

I’m using a GeForce 2 MX, Detonator 43.51, with DirectX 9… It doesn’t happen in any other game.

I’m using Win2k SP2 aswell.

In the docs it says that you should always use 32bit to stop these problems. I guess for postarity’s sake they just left that pre-set for fast and fastest if you were really concerned about proformance.

I know that, but the thing is that it’s FORCING 16bit, even when I have it set for 32bit.

Well I’ve seemed to have fixed some of the problem… :disgust:

Before it was forcing 640x480, 16bit, low detail everything, even when I switched resolutions, i’d try 1024x768 and it’d switch back to 640x480, I’d check the video options window and it’d show the extremely low quality settings again… I reinstalled ET freshly now all the settings stick, and I have it set for 800x600x32bit color. It keeps the settings there unlike before It still reports 16bit in the console and I still get the horrible dithered graphics and the graphics errors from the 16bit zbuffer…

When you make the changes do you click “Apply?”

I know this has perplexed others. I don’t mean to sound condescending with such a question

… :moo:

Yes, I do click apply, otherwise how would I know if the other settings have worked?

Currently I have 32bit selected for color depth, texture depth, and 24bit zbuffer depth, but It still uses 16bit color, and 16bit zbuffer. This doesn’t even happen in RTCW, or any other game I have, they accually run in 32bit.

Your graphics card is very out dated for this game ,that could be something to do with it.
