ET Demos/Movie Tool!

(broloi) #1

Ok, I just wanna know if the ET Demos, DM_84 and DM_83, can be converted to avi or wmv, or some other editable movie format.

And if they can’t, does anybody then know where to find a Movie Tool for Macintosh.

I need this because we are making a ‘real’ ET movie. With a manuscript and all that and have a camera man, with a lot of experience with editing movies, but he’s only using Macintosh.

Thx.

Real ET movie?! There are plenty of great ET movies out there!

(broloi) #3

i know, i know, and i aren’t saying they are bad!.. I just need the things i’m asking for

it’s just because i see a lot of TJ/Frag movies, and not so many ‘real’, if you know what i mean, even thou you prob’ dont, lol

(madness) #4

you mean, like have a story and characters etc ?

You can export a W:ET demo to a series of TGA files if you play it back, then issue some command from the spectator key window. (Possibly something with “avidemo” in the name.)

However, I don’t know how you record sound and all. Probably DarkAngel knows what to tell more about all of this.

Check my post in this thread

As for sound, you’ll need a prog like audacity to record the sound from the demo, then sync them up in your video editor. There’s no mod that will dump sound with the screens AFAIK… would be nice if there was :frowning:

(BrightSoul) #7

Check Fraps, it can record audio & video at full resolution. It’s not free software though.

(broloi) #8

yeah, lol, thx…

And for the others, THANK YOU, you’ve been very helpfull…

(nUllSkillZ) #9

Isn’t it possible with ET-Pro to record sound?

(Sauron|EFG) #10

Etmain even.

(Nail) #11

latest versions of et allow you to record audio in .wav format, the tga dump can be converted using Quake Video Maker or Virtualdub, resulting .avi can be edited with Premier, Final Cut or whatever vid editing prog he’s used to

(DarkangelUK) #12

Ah cool. Be even sweeter if it dumped while capping the screenshots, and the sound played at the same rate as the dmoe was played back (timescale)… but then, i am spoiled

(Sauron|EFG) #13

An ET version of q3mme would be sweet, too bad id haven’t released the ET source.

(Nail) #14

“cl_wavefilerecord 1 will start recording from the moment a demo is loaded”

should keep the timeline pretty consistent with playback

(broloi) #15

danke for all the info!

And you guys are allways doing a good job, this is and will allways be the best help/support forum EVER!

(Sauron|EFG) #16

You normally don’t capture the entire demo as TGAs, so you still need to sync manually. Starting wav and TGA capture at the same time but during different runs (since capturing TGAs slows down ET) using exec_at_time is probably a better idea.

(Nail) #17

he said a scripted movie, I assumed they would capture everything for later editing, but your way with 2 passes seems like an excellent idea for the audio

Sounds like a nice idea broloi, good luck with the project!
