I had a problem recently where the game would freeze when I clicked on any of the buttons on the main screen. I resolved this by changing r_clear from 1 to 0. Don’t know if this will work out for you, but it’s worth a try, right?

This is because you have a bad pk3 file in your etmain directory. If a custom campaign script isn’t coded correctly it will cause ET to lock when it tries to read it. Your client will read this info whenever you try to host a game or start a vote, as your client needs to know what campaigns are available. Bad map info or shader scripts can cause this as well, but they’re far less likely.

Easiest way to fix this is to go through your etmain directory and move all the custom pk3 files out of the folder. There are only 3 official pk3 files (pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3, and mp_bin.pk3), everything else can go. This will allow you to start up a server or call a vote. You can then try moving individual pk3 files back into the folder, exiting and restarting ET, and finding the specific pk3 file that causes your game to crash. Otherwise, you can just jump on servers and have them send you any missing pk3 files.

The above should probably fix the current ‘host game’ problem he has too? Could be starting a server with a bad campaign/pk3 file causing the same situation?

Cheers for that.

Just gotta find the duff one now, its fun hosting a game with gravity cheats etc…!!

Hi,

I must post here because was able to create a error in ET that hanged my computer absolutely. I was responsible of this error myself because I aborted the VIS stage of my map with Ctrl+C. Error caused just moving around in my map. in devmap mode.

My computer went dead so that even the signal to the monitor went dead. none of the buttons (reset or power) did nothing only take the power out from the power supply did resulted a shutdown. How can this be true? Is ET so powerfull program that it can make a computer so skrewed that the Graphics card do not send a signal? wicked!

The error was aparently a corrupted VIS table, because a new VIS stage fixed all, but I am amazed that the engine can do so much damage to a system.

My computer specs are:

  • AMD XP 1800+ 512MB DDR
  • GeForce3 ti 200
  • Win XP
