or better: reinstall into a different folder.
ET Crashes
i know, but i’m not confident that he deletes the correct files from the original folder. first he should check whether a clean install solves the problem, and after that he can still move on to the messed-up install and fix that one.
it only takes a few minutes to do.
Hey every1,
Thanks 4 all of ure posts. I’ve re-installed ET in a different folder and updated punkbuster but after about 10 minutes it still crashes. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.
If you still experience problems after reinstalling ET, then your problem most likely lies with your hardware or other software since it is unlikely two installs would both be bad in a row (or even one).
These types of things can be difficult to track down. Joe999 mentioned checking your logs which can give you information about the problem. All you have to do is note the time when an ET crash occurs - 6:32 pm for example. Then check the logs and see if any entries were made at 6:32 pm. If so, examine them for clues.
How to do this. Click Start->Right click on My Computer and choose Manage. A window will popup; click the + sign next to Event Viewer to show your logs. Click on ‘System’ and ‘Application’ and check the log entries to the right to see if any were created when ET crashed.
If you want further help, you should provide this info:
- What is the error report that comes up? Word for word.
- Can you host a lan server and play it on it without any problems?
- You said you fixed your virus problems so I assume you have an up to date anti virus program running? Did you run any anti-spyware or adware cleaners like Spybot also?
- Have you played ET previously on this computer with no problems?
- Do you play other online games on this computer? Do they work fine?
- Do you use a firewall, and is ET configured to run on it?
- Here are the exact error report there was an extra bit on the end of this but it wasn’t important:
“This error report includes: informatioon redarding the condition of ET.exe when the problem occured; the
operating system version and computer hardware in use; your Digital Product ID, which could be used
to identify your liscence; and the internet protocal (IP) address of your computer.”
Then after i looked at the Event viewer and there were 2:
Event Viewer Warning 1
“Detection of product ‘{00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}’, feature ‘ProductNonBootFiles’ failed during request for component ‘{CC29EA5B-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}’”
Event Viewer Warning 2
“Detection of product ‘{00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}’, feature ‘ProductNonBootFiles’, component ‘{4A31E933-6F67-11D2-AAA2-00A0C90F57B0}’ failed. The resource ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MS Access Database’ does not exist.”

-

-

-
Yes i run a firewall and it asks me if i will let ET run… of course i clicked on yes.
Here are the details you asked for. Hope this helps u, help me. Thanks.
The ID you listed ‘00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7’ is for Microsoft Office 2000 Professional CD1.
I searched Microshafts site with your warnings, and found a bit of info here :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q298385
While not exactly matching your problem, one of the fixes listed at the bottom may work. In a nutshell, a non-MS program using a control (like a button, text box, etc) might have those warnings if an Office 2k program like Access was never started up… but I find it hard to believe ET uses any generic windows controls.
If that didnt help, list those warnings ‘Source’ and ‘Event ID’ properties that should be in lines above the box you copied text from. Also, after you get the ‘send this to MS’ popup you copied text from - hit the ‘More’ button and copy the text above the hexadecimal values… something like “faulting application XXXpronTapirs.exe…”.
I have had the same problem as you, several times! I found out it’s punkbuster causing the problem. If you disable punkbuster, I’m pretty sure you can play without problems. But who wants to do that?
The reason punkbuster crashed ET.exe on my computer was because of some other programs running in the background. I’m pretty sure you can find a list of what programs not to run…MS Office and stuff like that.
For me it was a program called PRTG, funny enough i have unistalled it weeks ago, yet there are still some data running in the startup that i had to disable in the msconfig.
Anyways good luck
I hope it helps
