ET crashes...

Hi,
I have read several forum threads regarding this topic, however none of the solutions have helped so far. To get straight to the point - as the title suggests - ET simply crashes. If I use the windows client it crashes right after 5 mins in a way that requires a hard reboot. Under Linux it does work but after some time (lets say half an hour) ET shuts my machine down. Yes you have heard right, no power… simply turns it off. A quick peek at the CPU/GPU core temperatures reveals that they are in the limits (CPU ~45°C, GPU ~70°C) for both OS’.

My system specs are as follows:
CPU: Athlon 64 3700+
RAM: 2GB DDR
BOARD: Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9
GPU: GeForce 6800 Ultra (Vendor: Gainward, RAM: 256MB DDR3)
SOUND: ALC97
HD: 80GB NTFS (WXP SP2), 160GB EXT3 (Debian 3.1 testing/unstable)

One of the threads I have read suggested to use another sound driver or disable the sound card. However, even with disabled sound ET does crash (right after I have connected to some server) under Windows. I have no idea what happens under Linux.

I have stress-tested my machine with several benchmarks, memtestx86, you name it. All of them run fine as other games als do. Does anyone have a clue what I can do about this?

Many thanks!

So long,
CU Tyler

could be a heating problem tho…

did you test your fan(s)???

I had that problem a while back and it turned out to be a fried CPU. Would work fine for 10 seconds - 5 minutes and then suddenly power off.

You should try playing on a non-PB server to rule out Punkbuster problems, but it sounds like overheating to me.

I had the same problem with my first AMD2500+, although in my case any CPU-heavy application would do it. (And the temperature was always within the limits.)

Hi,
its definitly not a heating problem, since the fans are working the CPU never reaches a temperature higher than 50°C; same for the GPU with 70°C. They never reach their maximum.

Other games do work without problems. I can play Quake 3 for hours but ET simply won’t do it.

So long,
