ET Crashes more often than I care to tell!!!!

(adec) #1

I have become utterly disgusted with ET!!! It crashes more often than I care to tell.

“Check com crashed”

Seen this? About every time I’ve played some mod this shows on startup and I have to reset all my displaysettings. Not to mention whenever a file of some sort has been downloaded from the server I’m logging into, then the game, more often than not, crashes altogether and my desktop graphics becomes pale and watery, which calls for a reboot of the system. Or the broken graphics I see in some maps like Caen (huge triangular patterns making it impossible to move).

Why is this :banghead: ?

Has it to do with the custom maps and custom mods? Or is it the game itself? Can anybody shed some light on these problems?

Machine:

Win XP Pro
Inter P4 2.8 Mhz
1024 Mb Ram
Asus Geforce FX5600 256 mb
Soundblaster 5.1 Live!

(NVidia Win2kXP drivers ver. 52.16)

write a batch file with the following cmds

del etmain\profiles\yourprofilenamehere\profile.pid
del etpro\profiles\yourprofilenamehere\profile.pid
del shrubet\profiles\yourprofilenamehere\profile.pid
et.exe %*

place this .bat file in the same folder as ET.exe

link all ET.exe related shortcuts (desktop, quicklaunch thingie, ASE, HLSW, mIRC) to this .bat file.

never get annoyed by com-crash again.

hope I could help.

Worked just fine, thank you very much (Searched Google for this and found nothing). Will this also prevent the crashing which sometimes (ofter aamof) during or after downloads???

No, unfortunately not. As far as I can tell, the crash-after-download thing is a bug, plain and simple. It only occurs when downloading from servers that use the disconnect-when-downloading method, but the only client-side remedy remains just restarting ET after the crash and reconnecting.

HTH.
