et config nightmare

after getting a new pc i’ve been forced to reinstall et, to keep my config i’ve kept my autoexec.cfg and the file it points to “dog.cfg”

but when i join a server et seems to discard parts of my config and mix it up with the default, the only way i’ve noticed this is that picmip is set to 1 whereas i set it to 3

even typing /exec dog.cfg(vid_restart in the config) in the console will not change the value to picmip 3, the only way to do it is to type /r_picmip 3 and /vid_restart ,but then when execing my config again it still sends it back to 1 :???:

although the picmip issue is the one identifiable thing that i know is incorrect, the config just doesnt feel like mine which leads me to think that my other config changes arent in place

anyone know how to stop et fooking with my config?

note: i’ve already tried renaming my dog.cfg to etconfig and pasting on top of the cfg’s in etmain(etpro)/profiles etc but with no luck

prolly summin simple that is making et override my cfg but i dont know enuff to know what it is :bash:

Why don’t you just keep everything inside the autoexec.cfg? I think that will override everything else in etpro. Works for me.

nope cant see any pid files, and on this install of et(roughly the 4th one…) et/me hasnt generated the etmain/profiles or etpro/profiles although it has still generated an “etconfig.cfg” in etmain and etpro

even if i change that .cfg to picmip 3 the game still loads up and has picmip 1 :banghead:

i seem to remember something about ET refusing to change cvars when com_crashed was 1. so if you set com_crashed as the first line of your config, it will stop being a bitch.

Cerebrate is right, to an extent, because if you join an etmain server with “+set fs_game etpro” the bug will resurface it’s ugly head… as long as you only join etpro servers, you will be bug free.

I’ve witnessed some fruity behaviour if i’ve not created a profile in et, can’t remember exactly what was happening, but can’t hurt to check you have one.
Try copying your autoexec/config(s) to the etpro directory aswell as etmain.

well in the end i copied over me config into the etconfig one, changing what woz different, then renaming that dog.cfg

still not sure if execing that works right(my mouse sense is diff at times) cuz every time i play et it always generates a new profile.pid file, anyways of stopping it doing that as that might be my problem?

All I do, is alter my autoexec.config file in etmain.
Then, in game do /exec autoexec, then /vid_restart

Seems to work for me… :???:

ye but when i exec mine the game exec/cid restarts 3 times the last being the defaulted etconfig.cfg that et made, so i end up with a mish mash config

and if i try to exec my dog.cfg in game then it just doesnt exec :???:

i think the problem may be the profile.pid file that kendle mentioned but the game generates another everytime i delete it

I launch et with a batch file which deletes the pesky pids before execing et:

del "C:\program files\wolfenstein - enemy territory\profile.pid" /s

et.exe %*

Copy and paste that into notepad and save as a .bat, place in your et directory and change your shortcuts to run the .bat instead of et.exe
