Running Win98SE. Been changing refresh rates not problem (*Nvidia user FYI, ATI guys
). That 60Hz refresh rate lock was a WinXP problem.
-Skeme, if you want it set the “optimal” refresh rate just go ahead and change your desktop to the resolution you actually play ET in and then set the refresh rate. Win98 (at least with Nvidia and going way back…VooDoo cards) has the lovely routine of making you manually set the adapter refresh rate in every single different resolution that you use. Then you can switch it back to whatever your desktop was at before and it’ll “remember” it when it changes to ET’s resolution.
Also, that “optimal” setting can be buggy sometimes, just set it to an actual number. Highest number listed = optimal anyway.
-Have to agree/disagree with others here, Win98SE better for games for me (right now at least). Makes sense to me as everything we’re still playing basically uses engines developed WAY before WinXP was even released. LOTS less crap running in the background with Win98 too. But in fairness, I’m sure that’s gonna change real soon here in the next yeart or so though and we’ll all have to go to WinXP.
