ET can't deal with Optimal RefreshRate from WIN9X

(gunnix) #1

I think this is a problem to be solved ASAP because I love the OptimalRefreshrate feature from Win98SE

It stays 100Hz when I choose 100Hz refreshrate for my desktop tho . ET only gos to 60Hz when Optimal Refreshrate is selected in display properties.

grtz and continue the good work Splash Damge

:disgust:

Someone needs XP.

Windoze 98 is a p.o.s. for gaming… :banghead:

I had the same machine on 98, formatted (MUST FORMAT for XP install, if you don’t, you will have to format soon anyway), installed XP, performs much much better with XP.

go do a search on google for “hz refreshlock”
its a refreshrate proggy that allows me to run at 100hertz.
worth a try

“limit not, classify not, yet respect all…”

I have used this one and it worked also: http://www.nvrt.org/

linux runs ET better than p.o.s xp

win98 runs ET better then winxp for me . This Hz thing has nothing to do with refreshlock things coz thats only for win2000/xp , its a problem from ET .

Great game but this 60hz refresh rate with win98se is giving me a headache :weird:

i dont have this problem with any other games so its deffinatly ET specific, is there a console cmd to force a different rate?

Also i agree with gunnix, i’ve found that on my system games perform way better with 98 than XP.

EDIT: Fixed (seta r_displayrefresh 100 did the trick)

Running Win98SE. Been changing refresh rates not problem (*Nvidia user FYI, ATI guys  ). That 60Hz refresh rate lock was a WinXP problem.

-Skeme, if you want it set the “optimal” refresh rate just go ahead and change your desktop to the resolution you actually play ET in and then set the refresh rate. Win98 (at least with Nvidia and going way back…VooDoo cards) has the lovely routine of making you manually set the adapter refresh rate in every single different resolution that you use. Then you can switch it back to whatever your desktop was at before and it’ll “remember” it when it changes to ET’s resolution.

Also, that “optimal” setting can be buggy sometimes, just set it to an actual number. Highest number listed = optimal anyway.

-Have to agree/disagree with others here, Win98SE better for games for me (right now at least). Makes sense to me as everything we’re still playing basically uses engines developed WAY before WinXP was even released. LOTS less crap running in the background with Win98 too. But in fairness, I’m sure that’s gonna change real soon here in the next yeart or so though and we’ll all have to go to WinXP.

XP hasn’t been a p.o.s for me. :???:

(gunnix) #11

idd, I had found out just to set refreshrate to 100 in windows instead off optimal for 1024x768 . But it still is weird that optimal refreshrate doesnt work with ET.
