Et Bandwidth

hey does anyone know how much bandwidth ET takes up in say about an hour? I am going to university in sept. and we have limited bandwidth with the ResNet. So I can’t exactly pull an ET all nighter like the good old days. Its highspeed too and high resolution settings i will be playing on if that helps. thanks

Your rate setting is the maximum you download from the server, in bytes/second. So rate 25000 = 25kbyte/s = 90000kbyte/hour = 90 megabytes/hour. Your upload is significantly smaller, and probably won’t concern the uni much.

Now in practice, that esitmate is quite pessimistic. You don’t use the full rate all the time, especially if you don’t play on huge servers. Rate sets the maximum you wil accept from the server. Yellow in the bottom of the lagometer usually means you were rate limited. In my experience, playing on 20-30 player servers, the actual usage is more like 1/4 of that.

On personal experience 25 to 30 meg an hour.

ok thats no problem i was just hoping i would be able to play for a couple hours a week, and at 90 MB i have at least 40 hrs a week to play, but i dont plan on playing that much. thanks
