ET: aimbots everywhere.

(jalisko) #1

Hey to splashdamage team,

Lately it’s rare the day I don’t see an aimbot at some ET server. They are really everywhere. I let you here a demo of one of the aimbots to see if you can forward it to the PB crew or if there’s something you can do about it.

Thnx.

Oh no… BF2 is plagued with hacks don’t tell me ET:QW will be too…

#3

No they are not everywhere.

Many noobs call cheater to good players all the time.

This looks like an old cheat from 2004-2005. He didnt change his name every half sec, like the new multihacks do. So my guess it is an old cheat that should be detected by PB, or that the demo is old.

I’ve heard etpub is easier to get cheats working on, than on etpro.

I play ET everyday more or less. I see a mulithack like this one 2-3 times a year. Not everyday.

PB can take alot of time to get the player GUID hardware banned?
I had once a player who was a mediocre player, but after about an hour he suddenly got kicked and hardware banned by PB for wallhack/pbhack.

More prevalent, yes. Everywhere, no.

In my experience, hackers stay away from well adminned servers. No need to kick up a huge fuss about it, vote kick is a wonderful thing. About SD getting PB to ban, never gonna happen matey, speak to the admins of the server for a ban on the server but most of all stay to good servers.

(mogliET) #5

People who ACTUALLY have an aimbot are about 5% of the people who are said to have an aimbot…

Ways to reduce your encounters with cheaters:

  1. Only play on PB servers
    – While not perfect by a long shot, PB does stop the kiddies who download EvilBot666.exe from Hax-R-Us.com.

  2. Only play on ETPro servers
    – ETPro has additional anticheat protection. It is slightly more difficult to “hack” and thus requires slightly better coding skills (according to the coders themselves). This means a cheater may have to actually pay for their hax, rather than downloading public stuff (which is quickly detected by PB).

  3. Play on “league pubs”
    – While it can be frustrating and demoralizing, and you may want to cry cheater at every turn, the reality is that cheating is most rare among top players. An added benefit is that you will become a much better player, so when you go back to your old “Eternal-XP-Save-Doublejump” server for a visit, your old friends will probably call you a cheater.

I don’t expect this post to go over well with creators and fans of other mods, and I’m bracing myself for the defensive posturing and flames to come, but I’m just calling it like I see it. Lurk the cheater forums a while and you will see the up-and-coming hackers talk about “releasing stuff for ETPub [for example] until I learn to get around ETPro.” Clearly ETPro is hacked to hell and back, but many of those cheats must be paid for. And when a cheater is seen on a “pro pub,” everyone is in agreement about it and they are quickly dealt with, because those players are better able to tell real skill from artificial skill.

The downside is that you may be going from a “big fish in a small pond” on your old favorite server, to a “small fish in a small pond” on a pro server. Getting mauled by league players may not be as satisfying as rolling noobs, but it’ll definitely be more challenging.

Finally, and most importantly, relax. Getting owned does not necessarily mean they were cheating. Unless someone is blatantly raging a server, holding entire teams in their spawn by himself, filling the popup area with his kills, the odds are that you’re just being paranoid.

You do realize that will change if too many people actually listen to advice #3.

…which is why you should spectate the suspect before accusing him of cheating. (And record a demo if you care about having him banned.)

Let’s make some things clear:

1st/ That demo was recorded 3 days ago.
2nd/ It was a ETpro server with PB.
3rd/ I never give fake aimbot calls. I have a lot of experience in FPS games. If you have doubts, just watch the damn demo.
4th/ In the past week, I had encounter with aimbots every second day. Sometimes in ETpro, some in ETpub, always in PB servers (unless the server browser filter is broken). Sometimes they were changing the player name, sometimes weren’t.
5th/ I used to play a lot of ET until 6 months ago, and never found an aimbot in my way. Lot of people calling others aimbots, yes, but never a real one. I returned playing 2 weeks ago, and I’m shocked about the huge amount of aimbots I find. I never saw anything like this in my 8 years of playing FPS online (I never played CS, tho).
6th/ You may think only “league” servers matter, but this is not true from the developers POV. Been there, done that. The ForeverXPSave-blah-blah servers are as good as any other for them. If not more important. Personally, I simply search for servers with > 20 people inside and good ping. That’s all I care.

Don’t worry, they’ll watch closer to ET:QW. ET is old now and they have other priorities.

The problem is there’s a certain company making a lot of money selling hacks for most games now, hence the reason why BF2 has been plagued. Unfortunately their portfolio now extends beyond BF2 to CS and CS Source and almost every 1st person shooter out there (which probably includes ET), with the hacks constantly checked for their detection status. That doesn’t mean they are undetectable as pb updates do mean some get caught but it does give people the confidence to use them knowing that if they’re up to date, they are usually undetected. It also means that if a hack is detected, another pb proof version is immediately manufactured. Result is that whilst the odd idiot gets banned, there’s always undetected hacks out there constantly and this gives the confidence to others to try their luck.

Last time anyone looked they had thousands of subscribing members - I think its a full time profitable business for them now.

Personally I take great delight when someone gets banned. Unfortunately with a what is really a major company behind these now and lots of money and incentives flowing, the hacks are neverending in both their apearance and development. I think they now have a team of fully paid coders working on nothing but 1st person shooter hack development and pb evasion evolution of their existing hacks when detected.

Until someone finds a way to close this business down through either the application of an existing law or as the result of a new law, 1st person multiplayer shooters are now doomed to being spoilt by this kind of cheating at an intensity never seen before in the history of online gaming.

Al.

No flames here.

My position is play where you want. No amount of anti-cheat work will stop hacks, and I’ve gotten to the point that I believe that no matter what PB or ETPro provide there will be many workarounds. Given, ETPro makes it harder, however there are still many bots that work with it. At this point, the only effective tool against cheaters is sharp admining skills, and it’s up to admins of clans/servers to teach their sub-admins how to look out for them.

Again, I believe wholeheartedly that good aministration is what makes a server successful.

(DG) #11

did you say company?

Do you know the full name and country of incorporation?

(Freedom[]Tickler) #12

I wanna second this - major infestation of those bots lately - these people arent even trying to be subtle. I read on clan Lang’s forums - its their et server I always play on - that PB is no longer updating for ET and that we are screwed.
Is this true and is it also true that there is a company making/selling bots ?
And for the sceptics and chronic doubters - it was more than 1/2 of the players on the server bottin. This server went from full every night w/ the same old regulars to no longer played on. We are talkin real tragedy here : )

From evenbalance.com:

Tuesday 10.10.2006 [2:30PM]

Version 1.279 of the PB Client for ET has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This is a maintenance release.

(jaybird) #14

lmao what timing!

(Freedom[]Tickler) #15

HAHAH pwnt,

never occured to me to go read their site !! I also saw this today, firing squads interview w/ PB

http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=12650

heres the quote -

There are a couple of notorious sites that make a lot of noise and falsely claim on their website that their hacks are undetected or PB-proof or whatever. In these cases, we are catching virtually every commercial and public hack they release within hours and are banning the GUIDS/CDKEYS associated with the detections. Think about it, cheating and lying go hand in hand. If a punk hack author admitted openly that PunkBuster was catching his customers and banning their accounts, how many cheats would he sell?
