ESL released BRINK Championship Rules! (CF)
I can see I won’t be enjoying watching comp games with all these ability bans. i would much rather have seen the comp scene develop tactics around these abilities and their counters, it would be much more interesting than Brink dumbed down to just another shooter.

The only stuff that makes sense is banning some overly defensive abilities like extra landmine tbh.
DING DING DING

couldnt say it better my self

Yeeah, I think the main problem is that people focus waaaaay too much on “Skill” with “Skill” essentially being about aim. Teamwork too of course, but aim is what people seem to focus most about. It’s like “YEAH LETS BAN ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES YOU TO THINK OR STOP AND BE CAREFUL FOR A MOMENT.”

Take mines for example. Yeah, your character kinda, you know, SHOUTS when he steps on a mine? Unless yer running of course. Essentially, it’s your own fault that you died, it was not some cheap game mechanic, it was YOU and YOU alone, being careless. Heck, same goes with Cortex and other abilities. I mean, I can understand the ban for Cortex, but even then, it’s pretty much your own damn fault for dying. It’s not like in CoD where you have no time to react. The cortex bomb doesn’t explode until 3 seconds have passed by and if you’re still pissing about near the dude without killing him or moving on, it’s your own fault that you die. Or are you going to say that you didn’t have time to either move away or kill him in 3 seconds? The blast radius is tiny so it’s not like you can’t escape.

There’s sounds and even soundclips that warns about cortex too, so if you run up to an operative without paying attention or thinking “Hey, this operative might be using cortex bomb”, it’s your own fault if you die. It’s not exactly hard to find out if your enemy is an operative anyway. Remember the name of the operative, that’s basically ALL you need to be able to counter Cortex bomb. Just press a button and check the scoreboard!

Yeah, I’m done ranting now. I can understand some of the bans, but in overall, they don’t make much sense to me.

It’s the CS effect.

Even radar being banned from comp is like w/e to me. It’s just people trying to say “oh i’m more hardcore” but it’s not like you can stare at the radar/minimap and still be effective at killing. Especially in brink when you have skills/attachments that allow you to avoid radar, it should be a non issue. Everyone just says “Radar has no place in comp” but what’s the real reason? Don’t want to give away your camping spot? Everyone looks at these things like handicaps, but if anything, it would separate the top teams even more, because a team that can shoot well AND deal with overcoming the handicaps would be that much more formidable.

People like to talk about skill, but imo fps gaming shouldn’t be solely about aiming ability. There are so many more nuances like working together as a team that should make differences. In the end, the skilled players should still win because it is still a shooting game, however, it makes no sense to strip away everything.

You know what might be a fun game? Screen is black and then at a random interval everyone’s screen shows the opposing team’s players. First team to kill the other team wins. All skill.

QFT!

I avoided ESL etc. exactly for this reason, it is filled with people so biased towards what is best for them and their playstyle (no matter how much they say it is for the betterment of the game (lol)). They cry foul over anything that forces them to adapt. It is in the game, it is working as intended (not abusable/glitched) and both teams have access… I see scope for more varied gameplay and tactics… not cry foul and demand it be CS or Quake live… “they” see change… “they” fear change… :o

ESL strips Brink down until it is a generic FPS game. Wish they’d broaden their horizons and open up the game much, much more and focus on making all the Classes important and more flexible ability styles. Just a bad way to start off such a new game by restricting everything that makes it original.

And again the competition scene ruins a brand-new game with their selfmade silly and dumb rules.

NEW! cod style playlist!

every 1 is a light weight!

you must have a double buffed weapon!

you must have a nade launcher!

you must be a soldier with grenade buffs!

you must exploit a glitch and MUST use assualt rifles or smgs!

no other skills allowed!

you are not allowed to do objectives!

thats what this feels like.

I would like to see even more BANs.

BAN the CARB-9. This will bring more weapons to the game.
BAN improved weapon buff. The improved weapon buff makes the sniper rifle a 1 shot weapon.

Now if ESL would just remove grenade shooting and they got it nailed IMO.

The rules dont affect public gameplay. And they are necessary for competitions since there would be 90% double fullholds without them. I say this as a pure public player, but i enjoy watching livestreams.

I totally agree. The game is much more than aiming down a gun. Also, everything actually has a counter out of the box. An Operative can spot mines for teammates and can EMP turrets and mines. Adrenaline is basically designed to allow you to get to an objective push. Supposedly all these matches were played before the game shipped, to create these rules…with no basis of comparison other than ET, it seems like Brink gets the short end of the stick treatment with wholesale bans on abilities. I am gonna stop now. I am glad I play Xbox:tongue:
