ESL released BRINK Championship Rules! (CF)

(chosen) #1

A moment ago the ESL revealed the config and rules for tomorrows BRINK championship qualifiers. Very arguable are the restrictions set for every class and character which also requires everyone to reskill and redefine their abilities on an immense short notice.

Here’s what their announcement says:

[ul]
[li]Using the Adrenaline and the Self Resurrection perk is forbidden.
[/li][li]Furthermore all level 5 abilities are forbidden.
[/li][li]Removing the hackbox or using the antihack perk
[/li][li]Hacking the target and leaving the area. You have to stay in the same area as the target.
[/li][/ul]
Find the full news first on Crossfire, ofcourse

When they say “target area” how far exactly do they mean?

(chosen) #3

I guess it’s because of Reactor. It was possible to plant the hackbox and run into your own spawn to get it trough. That’s what they want to prevent with the fairly unaccurate word “area”

Sooooo, we are going to see very few, if any, plants.

Hacking the target and leaving the area. You have to stay in the same area as the target.

Are you serious?
a) attacking is hard enough already
b) at 1-bar strength you don’t make any progress, so the game already enforces an “area” limit by forcing you to stay within 2-bars if you want to make any progress
c) what is “the area” and how the hell are you going to enforce that?

(matsy) #6

Kind of annoying as the whole idea of the hack box if you can’t remove it forces you to hunt for the enemy before they finish hacking it! Kind of like in CTF where both teams have each others flags and you have to find them and return it before you can cap your flag!

(raib) #7

You can use adren for a guaranteed defuse as well.

Given the huge defensive bias that the maps have, you’d probably see it used for that more.

(justince) #8

Rofl because emp nades, laz nades, and gatling turrets are just so op?
I can possibly see the banning of satchels, but thats about it.

Emp nades can be useful for attacking; just yet to have been shown to be effective due to lack of game knowledge or experimentation, laz nades are hard to pull off because of all the gibbing, and gatling turrets are laughable; medium turrets are purely a waste of a pip.

Cool. These are serious rules. Had a feeling Adrenaline would get removed from competition. I can also see the reason to remove the level 5 abilities… they can be slightly cheap (Cortex Bomb&Down Shooting).

(riptide) #11

… cortex bomb is rank 4. Down shooting makes for ez gibs.

(Lemming) #12

Each time ESL updates their brink rules they’ve banned another chunk of abilities. I’m just waiting for the point where everyone is knives only medium soldiers.

(BMXer) #13

Did you happen to read the list of abilities that are restricted? Tell me how any of that lame spam stuff has any place in competition. You can’t…
I don’t necessarily agree with the hacking rules but I just don’t see how anyone is going to miss any of those abilities in competition.

Rather that just jumping on the “no restrictions” bandwagon, take a second to think about how silly most of those abilities actually are in comp. Enjoy them while pubbing but come on, downed fire in comp? cortex bomb? plz

(Lemming) #14

Have you read the latest list of abilities that are restricted? The operative has sticky bomb and caltrops. That’s it. No comm hacking or homing beacons for the operative now, may as well take a soldier who lost nothing but satchel charge…

Just to clarify, they’ve gone through about 3 maybe 4 iterations of their rules in the past week or so, each time stripping out more and more abilities (for whoever said adrenaline was a guarrenteed disarm, nerves of steel is gone now too)

Wait wait, they took out the built in wallhacks? damn, that sucks for competitive play.

Seriously though, just because a class becomes “less useful” has nothing to do with what abilities work in competition. Like i said half a dozen times in IRC and all over this forum… look at the op in ET and ETQW competition plz, k thx.

(Ragoo) #16

Nice restrictions so far, nothing over the top

ESL and their rules are a joke anyway.

If your into SC2,there is a player named TLO which was moving to korea to participate in the GSL championship. After he came back to germany he was invited in the ESL Pro series or something again even though that wasn’t possible cause the season had already started but for him they changed to rules so he was able to join in the pro series again while it was already running cause he was and is still a so popular player.

Cool and really fair to those other players participating in the ESL pro series right?

ESL becomes more of a joke every day.

MLG is STREETS ahead.

This has indeed nothing to do with ingame rules but i think you know what i mean.

(Ragoo) #18

I don’t like TLO that much even tho I’m German (he’s kinda overrated) but this is just completely false.
They just extended the qualifying time (which is about 4 months or more) by one week or so and that enabled TLO to still qualify since he was by far the best player who tried to qualify and just needed a little bit of extra time cause he came back from Korea so late.
Yes ESL did this for him but he qualified cause he was the best and not because he was invited.

So please hate somewhere else Mr Hater.

Also there is so much wrong with what MLG does, too. But this is definitely not the place to go into that.

(sirius89) #19

The rules were changed cause of 1 player. You can’t denie it!

It’s unfair.
He’s nothing better then ANY other player on the league.if he’s to late,he’s to late!
Other Pro gamers were upset about it and i can’t blame them for it.

But i agree with you that he is a little bit overrated.Thats true.

I hope everyone whining about the removal of operative abilities realizes that the op SHOULD be a situational class pick, especially in 5on5.

If he was a mandatory class you would only have redundancy with 1 class, thus you will either end up with waaaaaaaaay too few medics and/or with too few objective classes. The defending team could focus on gibbing the objective class 100% of the time and never actually defend properly. It’d be unbelievably stupid.
