Enemy Territory Video Problem

(Eagl) #1

A friend of mine is having trouble running Enemy Territory. When we try to run the game, it goes to the gray screen, then the part where the intro is playing, all that you see is a screen of flashing gray, black, and white (enough to give someone an epileptic seizure). Once it gets to the main menu, the screen is solid black. :poke:

System Specs:
Dual AMD CPUs at 1.7ghtz each
Geforce 5700LE (Dual Monitor Display) [It still doesn’t work if we set it to a single monitor]
1.5gb PC2700 RAM
Windows XP SP1

Please Help! TIA!

Is this with the default cfg and no mods on there at all? Do a fresh install with nothing extra in there, basicly vanilla with no patches etc and see if it starts up… if not then try patching the game to the latest patch. Also, now i know this gets said all the time and i hate when people say it to me… but try the installing the latest video drivers (latest OFFICIAL drivers, not beta)

This is with a fresh install (we’ve tried reinstalling several times). WE’ve also tried with and without 2.60 patch.

you could try

/seta r_smp 1

it toggles multiprocessor support for the Q3engine (not 100% sure its still usable in ET)
…and not sure it will fix your problem neither

  • maybe its worth checking up on your openGL settings in your controlpabel>display>settings>advanced>OpenGL tab

  • other games are running fine? …´startmenu>run… then write: dxdiag press enter… then it opens directX diagnotstics tool… check the display tab, the AGP features must all be “enabled”

Well, we found out the exact problem, which we really cant change at this point in time. The 5700LE has a documented incompatibility to fully work on the motherboard that he is using. So basically, no working OpenGL for gaming.

squad, im still not sure if /seta r_smp 1 works in ET, but If we ever get a different vid card, we’ll give it a try and ill report about it.

Thanks for everyones help!

It doesn’t.

Also, this is from the Q3 1.32b patch readme:
“From the feedback we got after the 1.32 release, the SMP support as designed in the Quake III Arena technology isn’t so much relevant anymore. It was designed for much lower CPU frequencies and lower AGP throughputs. Modern systems won’t benefit from SMP.”

I’d replace the motherboard before I replaced the vid card, prolly cheaper
