get 2.60b update/patch from here scroll down, all o/s supported, do NOT update clients for etpro, just server

Nail, 2.60b only fixes two specfic expliots, and neither of them even remotely matches what was described.

As for the actual problem, we need a better description of what is happening.

sry, was just a guess, couldn’t hurt though

The problem is, that someone is able to empty a server by switching teams really fast and often (e.g. between Axis and Spec). After a while other players get kicked for “Server command overflow”.
I guess this is the server in question since they have huge problems with cheaters and other asshats lately.

ok, with that info I was able to reproduce. All I can recommend at this point is banning the offending players, by netmask if needed.

You could also use a lua mod (or console bot like etadmin_mod) to kick people who change teams too often.

edit:
the following lua mod should prevent that particular abuse
http://www.sonic.net/~rfm/et/lua/noteamflood.lua

just copy to your servers etpro directory, set lua_modules noteamflood.lua and change maps or maprestart to load the module. Obviously, you probably want to set lua_modules in your server.cfg.

The default settings should be OK, but if you feel the need you can adjust number of “team” commands allowed per second, the maximum allowed in a ‘burst’, and the temp ban time by setting variables at the top of the file.

Afaik the problem is also these asshats change their name and guid on the fly w/o getting caught by PB, so its not so easy to kick/ban the correct one. Is lua able to track the combination (slot, name) for a player by date/time? If yes it would be easy to kick name fakers, since they keep their slot number on the server even if they change the name, but the timestamp would then differentiate the faker from the innocent player, so it would be easy to kick by slot #.

And a netmask ban would result in banning Belgium …

It should be possible. Without knowing exactly what they are doing it is a bit hard to be sure.

edit:
server logs would help understand exactly what they are doing. Also, if they are bypassing PBs name change restriction, a bug report should be filed with PB.

I can’t think of much of a reason to change your name in game more than once, I always warn people about multiple name changes

They just bash there spawn selector, and it lags the server, sometimes it crashes it, or kicks players like he mentioned, that problems been around ages though, same with spamming voicechats on non spam protected servers ‘sometimes’ crashes the server to, i done it before with a friend on a server called “Apollo Baserace”.
