(-M|N-Skuld) #321

hi all im new to the forums but we have been watching the web site for updates so far not to much other then the original stuff and now the game is to be released next week . and with no multie player preview it makes going out and spending the cash for the game itslef a little hard .

to bad you guys did not release a demo first . but oh well right

so will there be windows 2000 ded server files for this game? we would like to put up a server asap …

if its better then BF2 Mafia Nation will support you 100% .

we have a killer ded box from orbit so if you guys have the server files how about posting them so we can put up a server.

Remember that QW will no longer be WW2-themed - I play ET because it’s WW2.

i wonder how long it is before a wwII mod is started on ETQW?

months
weeks
days
hours
someone has already started and just waiting for the game code

You know something we don’t ?

(Joe999) #324

everything is better than BF2, even pacman. unfortunately pacman has no multiplayer part.

From this page alone there are so many sentences to quote and make comments about! :nag:

(Joe999) #327

how about BF2? if you want a game close to BF2, why not take BF2 instead? it’s the closest one and the original is always the best. :bump:

and speaking of it again: BF2 sucks. i think i should make that my sig. and i really do hope that SD is totally sealed off from all information that includes anything about BF2 so that no influence of that game can enter the qw designer’s head.

ps: qw isn’t finished yet, nor will it be released next week. the info you have is a customer catcher from a retailer

(KAGE) #328

how long does it actually take to make a game? i’ve heard it can take more than 3-5 years…
we all know EA :banghead: dice made BF2 one morning by accident when they were trying to pick the olives outta the keyboard that fell in there when they eating a ‘shit’ pizza (yep they eat shit for breakfast) the night before.

the key as i see it is; spend the time developing or spend the time beta testing… i like the latter one

                                                                 :drink:

Well the look of ET:QW is obviously good indeed, and it looks like the gameplay will taste really different from current ET and I might like it less (im not too fond of external & vehicules combat … kinda think ‘outdoor’ FPS and ‘corridor’ FPS are two different things (eq > Wolf:ET is a ‘corridor’ FPS while Battlefield is an ‘outdoor’ one)) … but my main worry is about the Q3 feeling … the way you move, jump, rebound, bunnyjump, accelerations/decelerations & stuff. Also what about game system control ? will all the littles tweaking still be possible via console, or will that be limited to a simple “settings” menu ?

And what about the framerate ? I sure can afford a game, but not a whole new top-edge PC just to have decent framerate ! (here the game system tweaking would come in handy)

And last, but that apply to any recent game, what about third party mapping/modding ? With every new game its harder to keep up with the quality / quantity of stuff needed. I know splashdamage give quite a lot of support to modding, but looking at the screenshots, it looks like a mapper would not be enough to create a decent map.

To be short, altough ET:QW sounds like a good game, im affraid it will be a different game than Wolf:ET.

As Monthy Python’s guys sang : “Im so worried about …”
(They also sang “Every sperm is sacred …” wich is totally out of the point, but i like it alot @_@)

Well I’d have to say the majority of fighting will be outside, but I’m hoping for more information on the urban maps. As for tweaking, I’m sure you could do a lot of stuff, just like Doom 3 and Quake 4, which is the same technology to used to build this game. Also because of that technology, your framerate is supposed to be similar to what you get for those games.

For modding and mapping, well I’m sure someone somewhere will develop some third party tools, such as import programs into other 3D moelling applications. But as for making a level, well Doom 3 and Quake 4 had that built into the game, and can be easily run from the console. Plus with this new ‘Megatexture’, a way of mappng outdoor areas with one huge texture, level designing may just be process of painting on to the texture, and adding props (Though it’ll probably be a bit more complicated than that). Yeah this game will be different, but that nessecarily ain’t a bad thing.

(Oh and it’s 6.40 in the morning, so I may of got a few things wrong…I’m a bit tired)

Yeah I have high hopes of a decent tool set for mapping that will ship with the game, and a modding toolset that may come out shortly afterwards. As with any of these type of game, stock maps are playtested to destruction to ensure that maps are fun and do not favour one side or the other. Player- made map, however, and Mods will keep the product fresh for a greater length of time. This has been the case with Joint Operations, BF1942 and BF2, Black Hawk Down to name but a few. I’m glad that SD is going to support its community. Who knows…with the correct tools, it won’t be long before someone creates RTCW:ET faithfully using the modified D3 engine.

I do share concerns voiced here about the cost of the game. Sure the price will be comparable with others (I’ve pre-ordered with Amazon and saved about 10% already). ppl will buy the game expecting it to look like the screenshots- you will need a very tasty rig to do that. Many ppl will need to upgrade to decent specs to replicate the visuals we’ve seen so far BUT to their credit, these games have always been scaleable. You can crank down the resolution, anti-aliasing, shadows etc, and the game will still play the same, However, spotting targets at distance sneaking through undergrowth etc IS easier with a nice crisp hi-res render than a lower one. Maybe a dedicated X360 rig with ETQW will be cheaper for some than buying a new rig or upgrading to a state of the art rig.

One thing I’m wondering about is the disguise system; how will it work exactly?

I know the strogg infiltrator can stroggify a fallen corpse to control it, and the stroggified corpse can be spotted thanks to scars. But what about the infiltrator’s original body? Will it play dead, because his mind is transferred to the other body? Or another system, for example switching between the two bodies?
And what about the GDF ranger? It can’t stroggify and it is rather hard to steal cybernetic metal pants, however the PDA is there to hack strogg structures, does this include fallen strogg corpses? And how will it be solved then? Will the GDF ranger play dead or anything else?

(Arcane) #337

Hi all, first post.
I’ve got a question regarding the resolutions available in Quake Wars. Will you be able to select 1680x1080 without messing with the config and FOV? At present, many people are starting to migrate to widescreen LCD monitors which don’t run natively at 4:3 resolutions, so the above tweaks have to be made, the problem online is that punkbuster et al boot you from the server because they assume you are running a hack, would it be possible to impliment the widescreen resolutions into the standard options menu?

Many Thanks.

(Goof) #338

Support for the TripleHead2Go would be nice as well.

wtf?

(kamikazee) #340

We see the strangest things over here, seems a lot of airplane simulator players are looking into ET:QW.
