Enemy Territory problem

(Oggy1) #1

Just downloaded the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory for the third time, and still having issues. I did the 2.60 Patch, then tried the 2.60b patch, and when I try and download the b version it keeps telling me unable to load, possible problem with game download, but that shows all went well.
When I load a map all looks like going well, until the map actually opens, then it freezes up, and asks to send error report each and every time. Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Much appreciated:(

2.60b is not a self installing patch like 2.60. You need to overwrite the original et.exe and etded.exe with the files in 2.60b, you may need to update punkbuster as well
punkbuster info here:
http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-et.php

(Oggy1) #3

Will give it a try and let you know how I fair out.

Much appreciated

(Oggy1) #4

Sorry, I’m not quite sure I understand you properly. How do I overwrite the original ET.EXE??

(Oggy1) #5

I keep getting this message?

ET 2.60b win-x86 May 8 2006
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
E:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\Enemy Territory 2.60b\win32/etmain

0 files in pk3 files
Couldn’t load default.cfg - I am missing essential files - verify your installation?

(IndyJones) #6

how big is ur et folder?

(Pegazus) #7

Go to Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain and look for a pk3 [zip] file named pak0. Open that pak0 with a zip file opener (any will do, or use pakscape program if needed). In that file, on the first page that opens look for a default.cfg (it’s a text file).
If you are missing the default.cfg file then tell it to me
If you have the default.cfg file but it’s empty say it here too
I will hand you then the fix, wich should fix the issue.
If you get stuck, then don’t hesitate to ask.

Edit: Do you own a Mac?

(Oggy1) #8

No, no Mac. I checked the default cfg. file, and it has info in it like a notepad would. Is this the way it should be?

(Oggy1) #9

You had said the default cfg. file would be on the first page when I opened it, but all is listes alphabetically, so the default cfg. file was a ways down.
this is what I see in the file,
/ generated by ET, do not modify

on mac your not supossed to install 2.60b patch
mac has 2.60c and d

(Pande) #11

btw, to install 2.60b go to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory folder and in there should be two .exe’s named et.exe and etded.exe. Replace with the ones in the zip file (32bit windows) and voila.

would posy my guid i made, but i lost…

neways, to make sure it goes thur, open 2.60b, extract the et.exe and etded.exe from win32 folder

go to ur ET directory (wolfenstein - enemy territory) usually in “C:/program files/” on winXP

delete et.exe and etded.exe from this location

drag both files you extracted into the folder

try again

(Oggy1) #14

t least when I click on the 2.60b file it starts to run, but still no can stay connected to server, freezes as soon as the server starts up???
I am puzzled

(Oggy1) #15

just played on a bot server, worked great. Left that server for another, and the same issue. As soon as the server starts, freezes right away???

(Oggy1) #16

What’s funny is, i can host my own server and all works ok. Why is it when I try to join a server it constantly freezes?? HELP

(Pande) #17

“E:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\Enemy Territory 2.60b\win32/etmain”

first of all, E: is an external drive is it not?

second, you used / instead of \ when you typed etmain at the end there.

(Pegazus) #18

The path issue might be it.

Also, was the default.cfg suppouse to be in etmain blank or with the same text after extracting from pak0. I cant remember. I think it was blank, but i am not 100% sure now.

(Nail) #19

did you update punkbuster ?

(S14Y3R) #20

Mac can play a game? Grats to Mac!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id_kGL3M5Cg (mac-vs/pc)

“Play any good games lately?” LMAO!

But srsly, Oggy, try updating your PB manually.
