Egads! Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a year old! Again, our thanks go to everyone who helped make ET such a success, not just id Software and Activision, but also and especially the thousands of you playing right now, administering servers hosting it and treading innocently upon its landmines. Without you, we’d be sleeping on park benches.

As if to celebrate what we like to call our Territoryversary, www.homelanfed.com has posted an interview with the developer formerly known as Paul ‘Locki’ Wedgwood. Their interview with Splash Damage’s Head Honcho covers such varied topics as Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory’s source code, future, tools and mods. Therein are contained such startling admissions as “there’s…doubt in my mind”, “we…be…tools” and “Unless you have…my understanding…you…release…table…pen”.

Step2: Make a thread and repeat over and over how you love wolfenstein, and how you hate moh.
Step3: Wait for somebody to give you the URL for the mappack!

Btw, speaking of Planet… sites, does anyone else have problems with US sites nowadays, the Planetmoh.com link brings me to a site of Bible studies (ok I know this particular post was a joke but anyway…), and the PlanetWolfenstein.com site no longer works as of last week ?

Thanks to SD/Activision/id, and everyone else keeping the game alive (modders, mappers, people paying for servers, arranging competitions and being generally helpful).

If it wasn’t for Enemy Territory, I’d still be of the opinion that First Person Shooters were tedious and shallow. ET single-handedly convinced me of the greatness of game design and now FPS’s are one of my favourite genres.

ET still hasn’t been surpassed in gameplay, depth and fantastic level design. It is THE best multiplayer FPS ever created. I am pining for some new official maps from SplashDamage, even just 1 would make me ecstatic. As good as some of the unofficial ones out there are, I feel that no-one can better the intricate and rich design of the 6 standard maps that are included in the game.
