Enemy Territory Lag...

You need to establish whether the problem happens only when you play ET or all the time.
If you are using windows XP:

  1. Reboot computer and don’t start ET
  2. Click on Start button and then Run
  3. Type “perfmon” (without quotes) and hit return

Do you see CPU spikes (more than 20%) at regular intervals ?
If yes, does this happen when running in Safe mode … if no then you must be loading something that causes this … use ‘msconfig’ to examine what stuff loads at startup.

Failing this … have you tried a reinstall ? (don’t forget to save any custom cfg files 1st tho)

Average best netsettings:

cl_maxpackets 60 or 100
rate 15000 (limited to this on most servers, if not 10000 by some uk teams :|)
snaps 40

sounds like it could be XP’s disk indexing service, right click on any HD’s you have and maye sure the “allows windows to index files . . . etc” check box is unchecked.

in work atm so can check exact wording but it’s similar

changing snaps does nothing. it’s a myth, like santa clause.

and i quote Rain: “It doesn’t really make any difference if sv_fps is 20. ETPro forces sv_fps to 20 because of gamecode bugs.”

since most servers now run etpro, and most of those that don’t run etpro have sv_fps 20 anyway becuase it’s the default setting, altering your snaps setting would only have an effect on servers which have been broken (read: which have had sv_fps changed) by their uneducated admins.

people simply set snaps to 40 because 40 is bigger than 20 so it must be better

and setting you maxpackets higher than your connection can handle will make you lag.
