Enemy Territory IS DEAD this sucks!

(Batyesz) #41
i understand what you mean because i already felt the same in the past.

but after you try etqw, and learn to use vehicles. et is dead for ever.

not to mention the anti-lag system, most hated thing, but unjustified imo. allows people to play etqw with 200 ping better than you would play et with just 100.
ETQW is another game. And something is missing… The atmosphere is not so brilliant as in Enemy Territory.

With a good Servermachine you can have lower pings. A lot of players don’t know how to configure Enemy Territory… Some of them playing with rate 5000 and maxmimum allowed rate is 25.000 on my servers, and then they say to me the Server is laggy. It is dependent on many things which ping do you has. Servermachine is the most important factor but do not forget the newest mods try to reduce lag, and I mean it is the biggest result of development.

Nowadays it is much more better than 9 years ago, when I started to play ET.

ET is the most dynamically developed game ever…

The development make Enemy Territory the most powerfull online game.

whatever

for some reason i cant play anymore. after 2 or 3 maps, rate becomes 40000 (leaving me tottaly lagged) and i can’t set it back to 25000.

Il bet the server your on has forcevar rate 40000 in cfg which is stupid tbh as not all can play with that. rate 25000 is a better choice

(edxot) #44

thanks for reply. now i know there is nothing i can do.

(Dragonji) #45

Not all can play? It’s obvious if you’ve got 56K modem… 256K+ connection can handle such rate properly with no probs. Moreover, higher forced rate provides unlagged game on big servers. I’m basing on own experience. My server forces rate of 45k for all and as you can see (signature), it’s full of people most of the time.

(Patriotqube) #46

No not all can play on rate 45000 without getting lag

many ppl has problems with it

There is/was a reason scrim configs forced rate to 25000

when did 34 slots become a big server?

.
No not all can play on rate 45000 without getting lag
Agreed, just said it is a problem for people with dial-up Internet access.

The reason is that scrims are played in max. of 6on6 format (for normal objective maps), not 16on16…

For silEnT mod it’s even too many slots.

(Patriotqube) #48

well its still a bit stupid to force a rate to 45000

its ok you have decided that you will allov rates up to 45000, but then a setting like this would be a better choice

sv_cvar rate IN 25000 45000 <-- thats what im using myself

and 34 slots is not a big server nomatter what mod you use imo

(Mateos) #49

A full 34 slots server with a nice rotation is still ET. 64 slots and you get a frag fest, arty spam, a kind of mess, imho ^^’

(Patriotqube) #50

This…

edit

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Mateos again. :frowning:

(.Chris.) #51

It’s a sad day for ET when 16 v 16 isn’t considered a big server. 24 slots was about as big as this game should ever go to, even then only on large custom maps.

(rorgoroth) #52

+1
Hell, even 8 vs 8 is too much for me on stock maps unless it’s Fueldump or Railgun.

W:ET died for me the day I discovered ETQW a few years ago and saw that SD fixed the huge f**k-up they made with W:ET medics, worsened by rate-kurwa mods… BUT:

This is always brings me crawling back like a powerless woman to her abusive husband and leaves QW gathering dust. I must delete ET 5 or 6 times a month because of the anger and stress it gives me but it’s always backed up ready to be back playing within minutes, where is my self control? :frowning:

(Mateos) #53

(Check his clan server, 24 slots, yeah, thought it was between 25 and 30 :P)

Wolf:MP for ETQW could be something interesting then…

+1 +laugh @ kurwa x) Ah, the good ol’ days with the text chat full of medics raging with this simple word.

Over 8o8 requires a better battle sense, as to know where could be the enemy, and where you can make or get ambushed. I love that for 6 years already :stuck_out_tongue:

(BMW) #54

the dbd clan server is active

(macbeth) #55

many clans are still active and somes with no bots hopefully :stuck_out_tongue:
we are around since september 2004

(rorgoroth) #56

Oops, I missed this.

Very much so, but I don’t think it will ever get finished and to be honest ETQW engine plays like garbage, online is almost unplayable and I gave up on that game not long ago. The good thing about that game is the online players though, it’s fun but they really care about the objective - I just wish W:ET still had the same minded people.

Also, if anything, I would love to see W:ET remade in the cube2 engine, mapping is so much nicer and easier - gtkradiant (and you may disagree) is such a cluster****, I used to do a lot of jump mapping for urt many years ago but I try gtk now and it is just horrible after using cube2 for so long, and selecting mapping mode on a server and having a group of people make and test the map together is mad fun.

 I’ve played a little on one of the polish servers for the xmas mod the past couple of days and I never even saw the word kurwa once, I guess maybe the word has gone out of fashion and now is my chance to be a hipster

Indeed, although for me it always just becomes a mess with 20 or so people unless it becomes a deathmatch rather then obj. Now I play with many and it makes (mostly) getting the objective done more rewarding so it’s not all bad.

(Mateos) #57

I may disagree on several points (idTech 4 beeing garbage, GtkRadiant beeing a cluster****), and I don’t really know if people are still selfish medics since I only play once or not the week, and on a single server which is fully obj-oriented… But you can’t affirm that something is garbage, or at least justify the part which is so x)

I played Cube a while ago, I know the community is… well, if it can be called so, not really good. Maybe it’s better now, but a friend who were moderator has been ban with some others cause hackers hacked several things, and it was the fault of moderators bla bla. Past.

If you need help for GtkRadiant, you know you’ll always find help here anyway  And if you know how to use GtkRadiant, you know how to map for ETQW, and so for WolfMP…

(rorgoroth) #58

Maybe I generalised a little, I don’t think that idt4 is garbage, but ETQW certainly is, especially when you get online - and it is a fairly recognised problem. As for gtkradiant, it’s not so bad but have you ever used blender? For me now gtkradiant is like the first time using blender, it feels very painful and I don’t have time to learn it all again, at least not at this point in time. I am just too used to being able to float around now and map in real time.

I can’t say anything good or bad about the cube community since I never bothered with them other then with blood frontier and red eclipse a couple of years ago - and those were fairly good communities with the execption of a couple of people :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not sure if those problems are still around, not that I know of fingers crossed.

Also thanks, but I don’t see myself mapping again, at least not for “normal” maps 'cause I was never creeative enough, I was a good jumper though so jump maps are what I was good at - whilst I do not like urt at all anymore, nothing compares to it’s ‘trickjumping’ so for me w:et or qw is pretty much a dead end to me for that, unfortunately.

(Mateos) #59

I learnt Blender, and I can do very simple stuff on it, like a table or a chair ^^’ I played few times ETQW, from day one to last month. Even if my computer wasn’t running it well, I tweaked the CFGs and it was enough (Had to reset it when I was able to see moving stuff through wall, and no PB reaction, lol). I didn’t noticed anything wrong, so I may search a bit about this ^^’

I don’t have a lot of imagination for mapping, I’m just amazed by some commercial product with very nice and detailed architectures and ruins (Fallout 3/NV, Painkiller for instance), and since I love ET I wanted to give it a try on the maps I liked above all: 1944 series. Result after 2 years (One learning and experiencing, one adding/balacing/polishing and testing) was 1944 Nordwind 2. And I hope I achieved what I wanted, make it balanced and bug/glitch/exploit-free. But the next map, if I ever finish it, is made from scratch, and is very simple in term of objectives and layout. But playing it is an other story

You can try to take a paper and pen, and draw a map with objectives, could help you find some hidden imagination

(rorgoroth) #60

Well Blender is another thing I need to try get back in to, I only ever made some small models (A water fountain was about the most complex thing I made, lol) in blender though. Maybe after I finish this last year of my “education” I shall take a year off and actully try re-learn lots of the old stuff I used to have all the time to do

I never really played with my cfg on ETQW, but playing online no settings made any difference, it’s mainly the netcode everyone bitches about that screws it up - I’m sure, although with high pings the hits are actually quite good - I wish it was that good on W:ET so when I’m up at 3am I can actually play on some US servers without getting angry and/or having magic kills after I stop firing

Haha, well, I must say you have done quite a good job on that map from what I have seen, I look foward to your next masterpiece! Also I may just do that, although if I do give it a go I might take it easy and do some casual modifications to some of the stock maps and try update them a bit before I try some real mapping - plus I’ve always wanted a cave on Seawall Battery
