Enemy Territory for Linux

(deftkizit) #1

Hello -

Ive downloaded and installed the latest drivers from NVIDIA, so my GL is up to date. Im using a Nvidia GeForce 3 Ti500 w/64mb ram on a AMD Anthlon XP 2000+ (1.7ghz) w/512DDR 400 clocked @ 333.

I load the game it works great, then randomly it’ll lock up! and have to reboot my computer. Ive even tried lowering all the settings down to 640x480, 16bit texturing, etc… but still continues to lock up!

Anyone know what could be going on? or is there anythign I could try to make it work?

Thanks

the latest nvidia drivers cause a conflict with punkbuster which makes your pc freeze > answer use old drivers

If Linux crashes, it usually is a hardware problem.

  • Maybe the CPU gets too hot ? Maybe some dust on the cooler ?
  • Try lowering your RAM-timings.
  • If you have a VIA-chipset (only the older ones I think), do not enable 4x AGP.

Do other games (for example quake 3) work ?

To Fusen: Are you sure about the driver issue ? The latest drivers for linux are 44.96, the new forceware drivers are not yet available for linux.

yep petameta I believe that Fusen didn’t notice the linux part of your post, there is a problem with the windows nvidia drivers if uv not got an FX card but I don’t know much bout ur linux drivers sorry

Might I just say that, for the record, Forceware is one of the stupidest name changes I’ve seen in a while.

You should not have to reboot the machine. When ET locks up try ‘CTRL-ALT-F2’ to get a tty so you may log in and kill the process. Or you could start the game in its own seperate X server like this:

‘startx /usr/local/games/enemy-territory/et – :1’ and then switch between X servers with ‘CTRL-ALT-F7/F8’

BTW…Hey nate.

well… if it locks up, it locks the full X… so killing et.x86 kills the X session. The only way to get away with this is to hit Alt-Enter to get out of full screen and then kill the et.x86 processes. if you can just switch to another console, well bad luck that the X session is lost. if it locks your keyboard… bad luck if you don’t have another machine to ssh into your box ;->
