Enemy Territory and VISTA, HELP!

(br1ant3rry) #1

I just installed VISTA and now every time I try and run Wolfenstein: ET it stops responding during the Startup video. Anybody know howto fix this problem?

This is what the console says:

Ok, I too had this problem with vista. But I sovled it doing ONE of the following:

Try this first:

1)Right click on the ET shortcut and click on “Run as Administrator”

if that doen’t work try this

  1. control panel>user accounts and family safety>user account>turn user account control on or off>UNCHECK the box that says: Use User account Control (UCA) to help protect your computer.

Try those methods one at time and let us know if it worked or not.

See, itsn’t Vista fun?

Are you running Vista 32 or 64 bit? Because I’m about to install it too and I might skip the 64 bit version for a while, if it’s too troublesome with “old” 32 bit software.

(ParanoiD) #4

Altough I do not play ET anymore for a while. Before i formatted my laptop Ive got ET running fine on Vista x64. I had to run it in Admin mode and maybe Windows XP compability as well. But I had no problems at all.

Just make sure you run in Admin and you’ll be fine. XP compatibility mode won’t hurt either.

it’s the 32 bit version…

At the moment I am having trouble playing splinter cell 2 and quake 3 arena…

Both games seem to freeze after the load up screen. I’ve tried disabling the UCA, Run as admin and XP comp…nothing seems to work…yet.

Vista was rushed out of the gate by MS and quite a lot of companies have yet to catch up with drivers and the like, which is causing some major headaches for the early adopters. I’d suggest that you go for the dual boot option (run a copy of Windows XP and Windows Vista on your harddrives), it’s the best of both worlds.

I’m going to be using Dual Boot myself (Windows XP (haven’t decided on which version, probably Home Premium) and Windows Vista Ultimate, after I get all the parts for the PC I’m in the process of building.

I am using the 32 bit version, i’ve tried running as an admin, and also the XP Compatability mode with no results. If i uninstall it and reinstall it, sometimes it will let me play once, but then after i close it, and restart it it freezes up again.

Really annoying

…did you try this?

  1. control panel>user accounts and family safety>user account>turn user account control on or off>UNCHECK the box that says: Use User account Control (UCA) to help protect your computer.

disable the UCA…

(malarky) #10

I’ve had problems running OpenGL games on vista with nvidia SLI enabled, that’s something to look for.

Yeah, i already had this done, no luck unfortunately.

any other suggestions that might help?

(Nail) #12

try and find Vista compatible drivers from ATI, if it’s an older card, you prolly pooched

Has nothing to do with it. You can give it admin rights and you are ready to go. UAC just manages this. So ifyou are getting annoyed of the warning, you can put it off. Just running in admin mode and clicking accept is enough.

(murka) #14

ah and thinking of the reasons why im not upgrading to vista, old is best.

(Father) #15

Which video card do you have?

BTW: some screenf with few months old NVIDIA drivers on GF Fx 5600 (I solved problem - just instaling driver for Win XP, the old one; new driver for NV card don’t allow it!) :

(Skarum) #16

i have no problems with et on vista 64:

the newest ati drivers (needed because of opengl drivers)
running as admin and winxp compability

(br1ant3rry) #17

Its a NVIDIA GeForce 7300

(freewheelinfranklin) #18

I have been battling with vista/nvidia/enemy territory for a few days … and finally found the solution. (for me)
I use an Inspiron e1501 (I know its not perfect) with the geforce go 7300.
And I got freezes everytime I started the game…

  1. Update pb …
  2. right click on desktop and choose nvidia control panel
You are presented with two choices, on is the 3d settings, and the other is the Display
  3. Choose the 3D Settings
  4. Adjust image settings with preview
  5. Choose "Use my preference emphasizing: Quality
  6. Click on link… just above that “Take me there”
  7. Choose the tab Program Settings
  8. Find your game ! Wolfenstein: ET in my case
  9. Click Apply
10 … enjoy the game

Hope this helps

p.s.
I have to check this everytime I want to play…

(jjpron) #19

Dude, just get a Mac…

(Nail) #20

yah, then you just have to install Win XP to play games, Mac ain’t the answer, Linux maybe
