Enemy Glowing

(Apples) #161

It just ruins the artwork IMO, I’m sure the feature will be well implemented and thats not the point, the point is that I (and many others) dont like it, it seems that once again you need to take the player by the hand because he’s too noob to figure how to shoot enemies in a freaking FPS… “Oh my god there is a sniper and I cant see him”, what did you do in the other games then? Snipers never been a big threat except really deadly ones, and they never were that many.

@ DAUK : you cant compare the people on the forum with the total population who’ll buy the game, if we are 60% here that dislike the feature, it seems fair to assume that approximately 60% of the buyers will dislike it too… Well it doesnt work exactly like that because we are all a bunch of whiney babies who HATE the game but still, you get the point.

Peace

(tokamak) #162

If that’s the case then SD simply lost all my respect. I think better of them.

It’s a terrible idea for an ability, everyone would take it to be on an even playing field and all it would do is reduce everyone’s slots by one.

Well that does illustrate how much of an impact this has on the gameplay.

Must be the fifth or sixth time, anyway, I’ll gladly repeat it, we’re talking about the default settings here, it’s what the vast majority of games will be played on.

(JeP) #163

Didn’t you said repeatedly before that enemy sighting has never been an issue in FPS ? If that’s the case, why would everyone take a perk like that ?

I personally don’t care of the “default settings”, if that allows more people to enjoy the game, to buy it and give Splash Damage a chance to make a new game, GREAT !

I know it won’t be any trouble at all to find custom servers that fits my preference.

Why allow tweakers to get the upper hand by dumbing down their graphism, giving them a more clearer sight of the battlefield ? It seems really more logic to have a default game much balanced, and allow tweaker and more “serious” gamer to tweak their game and have a more satisfying experience.

All I see here is whining and trying to get some attention from SD.

(LyndonL) #164

It looks a little disheartening now, but I honestly believe:

Molehill glowAura("Enemy", True);

Mountain impact = (Mountain) glowAura;

Sorry for the ubernerdy (probably wrong) code… I’m procrastinating uni study atm.

(tokamak) #165

I never said that. I said that it fitted lots of FPS. I don’t expect everyone to take that perk, I certainly don’t, but if Cankor is right, then it’s a huge impact on gameplay.

Which is the thing, I don’t think pouring everyone in glowing jelly will make more people enjoy the game. On top of that, it jeopardises my chances to find servers where this isn’t the case.

I know it won’t be any trouble at all to find custom servers that fits my preference.

And I know it will.

This is the wrong way to go about that. You can also just raise the floor for graphics. And I really have less problems with people sacrificing their graphics for better vision than SD applying ruined graphics and better vision across the board.

All I see here is whining and trying to get some attention from SD.

You saw that right, we’re standing here yelling 'hello SD you’re messing things up!" maybe I need to colour my avatar red.

As far as I see it, there’s about 5/6 people being vocal about it, and the reasons aren’t even consistent. Some don’t like it purely because they say it’s ugly, others say it’s ‘noobifying’ the game, and some partially accept it but want it set to team mates only. The reasons are trivial, and at times, hypocritical… but again we’re on doomsday talk here.

(Joe999) #167

no threat in the game, but threat for gameplay. if you are engineer and build something while some retard keeps shooting at you from far distance, there’s just no point in playing engineer. especially not on a pub.

(tokamak) #168

So by all means dress the engineer in a glowing orange hazmat suit so the snipers know in which general direction they can fire.

(Exedore) #169

Which is why an Engineer deployment tactic is rotating behind cover while deploying a turret, and also why there aren’t all that many huge sight distances in the game. There are always a multitude of systems working together to make the game what it is.

I’m not at all surprised at some of the reactions here, and I certainly don’t expect blind faith in our decisions. But we don’t think it has ruined the game, nor do the vast majority of people we’ve played it with, regardless of whether they’re console or PC gamers.

If some still feel that way when playing then fair enough, but it’s a little early to be watching out for the falling sky.

(BomBaKlaK) #170

To many things on the hud in game !!
lot of waypoints for secondary mission / Glowing orange enemy / glowing blue for the one who need something etc … make me feel bad !

(LyndonL) #171

So once you start to press use/fire whatever to deploy the turret do you have free movement again (within a certain distance of the turret of course)?

i for my part like the decision that has been made regarding snipers.when i think back of quake wars, i’m still disappointed that sd didn’t make a similar decision back then and remove that stupid OHK, eg killing someone from that distance didn’t make sense regarding “fun”. none at all:

if someone wants to play that way, fine. i’m none of them.

that being said, i was really happy when i saw the interview with rahdo and he mentioned what’s been done to snipers.

(Crytiqal) #173

Talk about red enemy glowing:

It’s almost a wallhack or something

(DarkangelUK) #174

That’s a year old, are the enemy names still present anymore?

(Exedore) #175

Your distance is locked while interacting, but your rotation isn’t. This works for Engineer escort objectives as well, so you can use the bot for cover to get that last bit of repair done. It’s actually true of any interaction which ‘locks’ you, it only clamps backwards and forwards.

(tokamak) #176

Good. That’s it then.

(BioSnark) #177

which is essentially what I said.

(LyndonL) #178

Thanks Exedore. Sounds good

I really dont like the red glowing enemy !! server cfg rescue ?
what about the color choice for the factions ? what about character design ? and a least graphic design ?
All this work to hide it behind a big red dot ?

That’s older footage. It’s been polished since so that as characters move closer that color effect fades.
