Enemy Glowing

(H0RSE) #301

I still would like to have the option to turn it on and off, sounds better to give the players the choice, it’s not like I’ve ever shot my friends before in a FPS becuase I thought they were enemies

Aren’t teammates all the same color in Halo?

(Schwarzeis) #302

Halo, Call of Duty, Red Dead Redemption, Gears of War, Borderlands… Doesn’t matter really, I still don’t shoot at them mistaking them for enemies, H0RSE
Out of all those Halo might be the only one where all the players basically look the same, and Gears of War everyone got a distinctive look, I just messed up

So eventually after I’ve put in a few hours I think I will pretty much have learned how to tell the two factions apart

Since the PC players can toggle it on/off, I don’t see why the console players shouldn’t, as I said with the rub on-tattoo remark in some posts above this one, I want the choice to toggle it on or off as I want to see my enemies, not see their red ghost when I look at them or see them infront of me without me aiming

If this isn’t in the console version, then whuppi-dupp, what can I do about it? Nothing - But right now the game is still in developing, so maybe we too can get this option, as not everyone might like it

(Jess Alon) #303

For good reason too. That would get confusing.

(Schwarzeis) #304

If we can’t toggle it on and off, then I hope you’re right, Jess

Then I will still be able to see the whites of my enemies

‘‘is this purple guy on my team?.. i’ll take the shot’’

But something that some people hear keep missing is that the auras/outlines are n’t just so people can differentiate friend from foe. It has other practical applications, like deterring camping.

(Jess Alon) #307

Horse I’d like to hear your philosophy on the aura personally. I know you have an opinion. And I bet it’s a good one. I like the idea. Because I don’t want some dude I can’t even see to line up a headshot and clock me from far away. I like the idea that I’ll get gunned down in the middle of the action. Not by a couple random shots out of no where.

(Schwarzeis) #308

I don’t really mind the halos around friends that are in buffing range, I mind the red pudding coating my enemies

(H0RSE) #309

I’m pretty much neutral on the issue, especially since I haven’t played the game and seen it for myself. I post on a bunch of forums, and on some of them I get labeled as a Brink fanboy, because I never seem to criticize anything about Brink. This isn’t because I’m some blindly loyal sheep, it’s because I tend to keep my criticism to myself until I get to play the game. Why bitch and complain about something that’s not even there? Until I get to try the game for myself, any criticism I may have pretty much amounts to nothing without hands-on experience.

After I get a chance to play the game, and I have actual concerns, then I’ll let my complaints be heard.

That’s a refreshing approach. I don’t really understand why everyone is so cynical before it’s even here. And alot of the people who have a huge amount of complaints are people who just wanted QW:ET2 and don’t seem so invested.

It’d be nice to see more people in the gaming community be a little more optimistic. I know I am. The game could have the most retarded looking running animations death animations and whatever… just the gameplay and balance and the attitude of what the game is about is what makes it special to me. I don’t know if everyone “catches” splash damage’s vision for the project.

Horse what are you hoping comes out of the aura feature?

Edit: As far as a best case scenario use for the feature?

(Seyu) #311

Jess, it isn’t about being cynical or a pessimist. I think it’s essential for us to let the developers know of our opinions. It isn’t simply about whining and bitching because the game isn’t tailored for a particular individual’s taste but more about providing feedback that helps the developer improvise on that aspect of the game.

I am against the rim lighting and would prefer it if it was removed altogether but that doesn’t mean I’d be pissed off if SD didn’t do so. It’d only mean that SD thought rim lighting did more good than harm and I trust them enough to respect their judgment on this issue. It was necessary to let our skepticism about it be known to the developers and then allow them to resolve things as they saw fit.

personally I think the addition of the feature is interesting too. I heard that nothing would really be added or taken away and everything was just going to be tweaked and balanced until release. And that was why at that time there was no release date. So that they are adding elements to the game is concerning. But it must have been needed if they added it this late on. I don’t think they would just come up with a bad idea at the last minute. They probably realized it’s possible to camo to the enviroment and that can be an unfair advantage if people are dressing their characters to look cool but others are doing it for tactical advantage.

(H0RSE) #313

It’s reasoning like this that I choose to keep my concerns to myself. Why let the developers know you don’t agree with or like a feature that you haven’t even tried for yourself? It’s like calling 911 because somebody might get hurt in the future.

Look, SD may be confident they didn’t mess up. I am just as confident they messed it up for me. Not just the implementation but the motivations for this implementation tell me enough that this is no longer a game I should be interesting in.

It has a toggle - wtf are you talking about?

I have no grounds to criticise their approach, they want a bigger audience by making the game more shallow. Fine. But through that they just placed me out of their target audience. Don’t mistake this for a complaint, see it as a concession.

Really? over something like this? I think it’s time to put on your big boy pants.

(tokamak) #314

It’s like calling 9/11 while seeing an accident happening (or someone receiving an involuntary rim job) happening right in front of you and then being ignored because you didn’t experience the incident first hand.

And you’re right. I should keep my thoughts for myself next time. I think I’ve been fooling myself for a a few thousand too many posts now. We’re not the ones SD needs to cater to any more, we’re on their forum performing forensic art on each and every meagre bit of information and arguing over it like it matters.

Actually, it’s nothing like that, since in this case, we aren’t even sure if the outlines are indeed an “accident” happening.

Pretty much. I always have a good lol @ anyone who is going to forsake an entire game based on one feature, especially if they are totally enamored with every other aspect of it… before even trying it, no less.

(BioSnark) #317

It’s nothing like calling 911. More like going to the town hall to voice an opinion on a new development deal.

(Jess Alon) #318

I want Paul Wedgwood to put this image inside all the PC cases for Brink.

(DarkangelUK) #319

Is that the type of immature nonsense you got banned from the Beth forums for?

(Ajax's Spear) #320

He should have made a new poll thread about whether or not he should have posted the picture first.
