Enemy Glowing

You can call yourself experienced, having practical knowledge and as making points that are intelligent but what are your game design credentials?

What do you think would improve accessibility?

(trigg3r) #282
“We” seems to be the people who have the practical knowledge as to what these changes ACTUALLY mean rather than most peoples speculation of simple tactical advantage and aesthetics, saying it is “obvious so not really something we had to admit to.” is an extreme oversight imo.
Saying it’s selfish to argue this is just wrong imo, i believe the intelligent points brought up by all are not selfish for me it’s a matter of concern against the influx of games wedging the skill away from the player.
Cutting out console in a completely non-bias perspective is laughable as a solution for toggle option not that I care but DrJekyll said it best when he said “Ouch.”
so, since you agree with him you decided that you both have all the knowledge, experience and intelligence while the rest of us (including the very ppl designing the game) are just making assumptions?

Read former posts, there have been suggestions not just criticism.

Would be fun to feed your troll-like implications of me but no thanks. Short answer, yup, people with good ideas that deal with the problem fully usually do know more than people that just write smarmy remarks. Of course the designers of the game know, they know so well they didn’t even deem it worth mentioning, apparently it did, if their is confusion on how it will affect the game.

He’s kind of a strange bird. That’s why. You know Schwarzeis he’s totally right. Unless you have a 60 inch LED running at 1080p 6 feet away from you you’re seriously gonna miss certain details.

(H0RSE) #285

lol, so turn it on as well…your complaint is baseless.

“This aura/outline thing makes it to easy to see enemies and ruins tactics.”
“Then turn it off.”
“But then someone else could turn it on and gain an upper hand - this isn’t fair!”

And how much of an advantage do you think a feature like this implies? Do you really think something like this is gamebreaking? I certainly don’t

As far as advantages go, I see this as merely a guide/helping hand for lower skilled players (or players that can’t see well?) as a way for the game to tell players, “the gut you’re aiming at is a bad guy!”

It isn’t an aimbot or a wall hack. It doesn’t put the player in god mode ot give infinite ammo.
They still have to aim and shoot manually - I really don’t see what the big fuss is, especially since it is a toggle option.

(Seyu) #286

H0RSE, I think the impact of this feature would be much bigger, Exedore already stated that it does negatively impact tactical complexity.

Edit: Unsee this, I misread Exedore’s comment.

(H0RSE) #287

But it is the degree of the impact that I am talking about.

(Jess Alon) #288

PC users get your own servers and turn it off by default if you hate it so bad. Console users. You’re going to have to live with it. The reason you will have to live with it is for the same reason I have to give up the closest parking spot to the front door to the guy that has a handicap placard. The majority wins. Endrant.

(Schwarzeis) #289

I don’t sit that far away, no, it’s not like I have to squint my eyes together to see

720p is still something, and not everyone on the console wants this enemy glow either, so why do the PC players get the option to turn it off and the consoles does not? It’s just a toggle option, so why can’t it be included in the consoles?

(Schwarzeis) #290

Maybe you’re right, Jess…

I still would like to have the option to turn it on and off, sounds better to give the players the choice, it’s not like I’ve ever shot my friends before in a FPS becuase I thought they were enemies

… Except once I thought Cole was a locust in Gears of War 2 when I saw him coming in the corner of my monitor (black skin vs. bleach white skin)

‘‘I want a rub on-tattoo’’
‘‘I’ll give you a real one, nothing less’’
‘‘Shiet…’’

(Exedore) #291

I think this is going to be my last post in this thread, things are getting all sorts of misconstrued. “it is possible to perceive a strand of reality” was specifically said to denote that it was not necessarily my position. Designers have to empathize with all sorts of gamer types, and that was just one possibility.

I also never said it negatively impacts tactical complexity, because I don’t think that’s true. Saying anything else would just be repeating myself, and re-reading my previous posts I can’t think of a way to say it any more clearly.

lol @ shark thread tag

(Ragoo) #293

Tags overall have gotten really funny and random lately lol

Cole is also freaking huge like the locusts. So I understand the confusion. If there was something in game to tell you it was him it would have helped right?

(DouglasDanger) #295

Is this true on the consoles too?

(Schwarzeis) #296

I clicked the Tac-Com :stuck_out_tongue: But that was a one-time happening, and when I played Halo and Call of Duty I never mistaked my enemies for my friends, and that is FPS and not TPS

Anyways… I would still like the option to not to see the red radioactive pudding coating my enemies, I ‘‘want to see their eye whites when I kill them’’ as they said in some early interview :stuck_out_tongue: If it’s there, and not a toggle option - What am I gonna do? I’ll just have to live with it :l

Nontheless… It would be great to have the option for the consoles too

(LyndonL) #297

When they’re close enough to see the whites of their eyes no halo will be visible

(DrJekyll) #298

Exedore

I apologize for stating your console position for you. A possible strand of reality is hardly a firm position. My misinterpretation still begs the question, why not have the toggle on consoles?

When you said the auras “reduce a certain type of tactical complexity”, this struck me as admitting a direct negative impact. What I understood is that there was a net tactical gain. I was hoping you would elaborate on that net gain and lay this issue to rest.

Please forgive any misquoted statements on our part. A quick word from a dev isn’t much to go on. It is an emotional subject. Some of us have spent years playing SD games. We are just looking for answers an an end to our fears that Brink has sacrificed too much in the name of accessibility. We would all be very appreciative if you took the time to go over the net tactical gain of the aura system with us.

It’s only when they are far enough away to be trying to hide in the corner and take pot shots at you that this feature will probably be in effect. They don’t want players to stay in the same location and take you out over and over from a hiding place and effectively take the fun out of the game for you. If the guy is right on top of you it won’t be an issue.

(Seyu) #300

“…It is an emotional subject…”

I think you are taking this a bit too seriously.

Not that I know much about console multiplayer, but it may have been because the differences in its matchmaking system from the PC and the difficulties associated getting people who have the same settings, together.
