EAX Features?

(RosOne) #1

I’m trying to find detailed information on the sound engine in ET:QW.

Since the Creative Labs patent incident DOOM3 engine based games obviously use EAX.

In particular I would like to find out if Quake Wars uses features like the 128 voices support, PurePath, Voice, FlexiFX, MacroFX or Environment Occlusion.

Was any of this mentioned in some of the recent previews?

thats a very interesting question.
but also “important” is Dual Core / SMP Support.

quake 4 has a performance boost up to ~30 FPS with SMP
look at the benchmarks: http://www.etqw.at/include.php?path=comment/comment.php&comcat=cont&subid=101

splash damage, please give us some infos  thanks

I rather think id can tell you more as it’s all in the engine.

EAX® Voice would be cool.

EAX® Voice allows you to literally become part of the game! Using a microphone connected to an EAX ADVANCED HD 5.0 compliant audio device in any game title, you can speak and hear your voice with the same effects as the environment your character is in. Furthermore if the game title supports 3D Voice Over IP then other players in the game will be able to hear your voice as you do and coming from the correct direction! But be careful, this effect is so realistic if you talk too loud your enemies will hear you. Add Multi-Environment® supports and they’ll even know exactly which room you’re hiding in!

Would it be logical to suddenly drop multi-core support? I’m sure this one is covered already.

Even if the engine supports those features it’s still not said they will be used in ET:QW.

no, i read “all” (the most) review, but there no infos about the special eax features :frowning:

Quake 3 had SMP support so the age isn’t really the reason here. But as I said, ET:QW should fully support it IMO.

Thanks, guess the only ones who could answer that then would be someone from SD and/or id. Too bad.
