EarthquakeGaming servers 1, 2 and 3

(Spooky Fodder) #1

As of late there has been a proliferation the usage of a variation of the “bind /kill” exploit. I call it an exploit because the server admins have deliberately disabled /kill. However, there are those who have found a way around the server administrators attemtp to control this. (I wont go into how to do this for obvious reasons). Although not yet wide spread, several people close to either the referees or the admins (or both) use this regularily. The refs will not stop this, so I recomend not playing these servers untill the situation is rectified. It may not sound like much, but for anyone who has ever got into a gun fight with someone only to have them selfdestruct then imediately respawn and kill you, or worse yet as a covert op who is seemingly winning a gunfight and looking forward to getting a uniform only to have the other person explode into mist thereby robbing you of the uniform you just fought so hard to get will know exactly what I am talking about. I have played FPS shooters for some time now and this almost always happens. Cheating. Once it gets a foothold that particular game is never the same again. CS, Diablo, etc etc. Its a damn shame really. I am an honest player. I dont even use scripts or altered cvar settings, only a few custom key bindings, “Attack”, “Thank You”, etc etc. I have to wonder at the mentality of those who feel the need to cheat.

P.S. I cannot speak how other servers handle this as I dont often play them.

/kill does not make you explode into mist does it?

(Sqwirral) #3

mist, thin air, same difference, very annoying

(Rain) #4

It’d be a hell of a lot more amusing if you did!

You didn’t even mention what mod you’re using/how you’re disabling /kill… Anyway, /killing in the middle of a firefight is generally considered really lame—you won’t make any friends or make yourself look good by doing it—but disabling /kill entirely is kinda silly. Presumably, the people close to the refs are only using /kill for ‘legitimate’ uses, but otherwise the administrators are likely just evil and you’re better off playing someplace else.

(Depth_Charge) #5

And you don’t explode when you /kill you can still get their uni if someone does that

(Spooky Fodder) #6

Its actually not /kill but it was the simplest way to explain what happens (beacause most are familiar with it) as I said… “a variation of” and yes the player explodes (causing no damage to anyone but them) and thereby leaves no body no corpse… nothing.

(Kendle) #7

So what mod is it, cos this doesn’t happen in etmain / etpro (or Shrub that I know of, although I don’t play Shrub).

(Spooky Fodder) #8

Its listed in the server info setcion of ET as being shrubet. So i’m assuming it is shrub. I have tried using /kill to see if it works and it in fact does not, as for it being used for legit purposes it isn’t. It is unfortunate because the refs do seem pretty decent otherwise, i.e. they keep out the racism, mute the spammers and kick tkers but for some they are letting this go. Especially amongst their friends. I despise cheating/cheaters. I am not disabling it as I am neither a ref nor an admin (so I can’t enable or disable anything serverside). I’m just a player. An unhappy one at that.

(Kendle) #9

OK, it’s Shrub. Like I say never play it (mostly becuase of these weird and wonderful “features”).

However, it must be a command of some kind these people are executing, albeit maybe one requiring some kind of admin level privilege. How is that a cheat?

I don’t play on Shrub server cos I think Coverts stealing an Engies uniform and then being able to plant dyno, or Meds dropping packs when they’re gibbed, or double-jump are stupid game altering features. But I wouldn’t accuse people who use these “features” of cheating.

Do what I do, if you don’t like “wacky” features, avoid Shrub.

(Spooky Fodder) #10

Kendle, it is not a feature. It is way to get around a server setting that an admin has disabled namely the ability to use /kill. Much the same way the same way someone using a name exploit tries to avoid being kicked. Only this involves gameplay so I do see it as cheating (rather than strategy). If I were talking about double jump or other features I would not be so pissed off. I will find another server(s) to haunt and I will encounter people who don’t like to play fair I am not naive. As for the covert op being able to plant tnt after stealing dyno… wasnt even aware that that could be done using shrub. If so it isn’t enabled on these servers. Sooo what is cheating? Is a wallhack cheating or good strategy? How about the old RTCW lag hack. Do you think my wording too strong? Seriously I have played against some remarkable players, gameplay against them can be an exercise futility. I still respect their skill and find I bump my gameplay up a notch or three to try to match their skill (futile or not). With the amount I get killed I definately dont have a problem with better players. I still think it is a form of cheating. I dont know maybe I am overreacting but I dont think so. Would like to hear what you think.

(Kendle) #11

To me using a Wallhack is cheating, because it’s using 3rd-party software to influence the game and give an advantage over other players. Exploiting something, well that’s a bit of a grey area and would depend on what they’re exploiting. I’d call a lag hack cheating, but then the servers I play on (ETPro) prevent it from working so I’m never a victim of it. Tweaking my config, within limits set by Punkbuster, I would not cosnider cheating, albeit by doing so I may be at an advantage over others who don’t tweak.

(Sauron|EFG) #12

People keep playing Shrub in spite of all the exploits and bugs (that will never be fixed)… I don’t get it. :uhoh:

Edit: is this the feature that kills you if you say certain words?

(EvilBaga) #13

/Kill is so tempting… Id love to play on a non-noob server with it disabled…because (gulp) I use it all the time

So addictive :frowning:

(Kendle) #14

Don’t think such a server exists…“non-noob” and “/kill disabled” are mutually exclusive concepts, aren’t they?

(amazinglarry) #15

I think this “way of getting around a server setting to disable /kill” is really just them exploding themselves with grenades? Seems like “strategy” to me… and yes while /kill is very annoying in the middle of firefights, what I find even more annoying is not having the ability to /kill when say…

There’s 3 seconds to respawn (as axis) and allies just planted at the north gun… because the server has /kill disabled, I can’t /kill to switch to an engineer and try to help the team out…

I think people just take things too far. People just have to learn to DEAL with it… =/

(SCDS_reyalP) #16

Lemme guess… bad words ?

Isn’t it wonderful when poorly thought out rules collide ?

(Spooky Fodder) #17

Hmm. After reading the the high drama that has taken place in other threads on this board I’d like to apologize for the tone of my thread. I still feel the same way, but in light of what has happened I can understand why people are oversaturated with such drama. I think I have unwittingly contributed to it and for that I am sorry. One last piece of info regarding this, it is not someone arming a grenade. When this happens and the person dies because their grenade goes off the console will say player x has killed themselves. When they use this whatever you want to call it console simply says player x has died. It is a sure fired way to differentiate the two. Again, sorry for the rant.

(Defunk) #18

why disable /kill ? i suggest taking 10 xp so ppl will think twice b4 they use kill … if they dont care about XP then take out frags or something … or even make them spawn with 50 hp or … just find another solution instead of disabling it alltogether.

(Red|Cell) #19

i /kill all the time just not in fights

like reyal said shrub servers can set it so that if u swear u explode so binding a swear word to a key would work even better than /kill would as u dont leave a uni
if that is the case banning /kill but setting it so u explode if u swear seems pretty dumb to me…

sorry if this was said in more detail above but there is a lot of stuff above
