Dying to return to ET, but get nothing but server errors...

Hey guys,

It’s been many years since I’ve tried revisiting the wonderful world of ET. Gave up the last time because after reinstalling, no matter what I tried, I could not connect to any server in the list. All I want to do is connect to a server (preferably one with some humans left) and play the basic maps. But when I try, I get this error:

“Game code (ui_mp_x86.dll) failed Pure Server check”

That’s usually followed by a list of the various packs I am missing. I even went and turned on downloads so that when I try to connect to certain servers, it will download all the maps/packs, but it still won’t work. Being that I’m using Windows 7, I read that I should launch ET by right-clicking the icon and selecting “Run as Administrator”, which now gets me as far as actually loading the maps as though it’s about to begin, but then nothing happens. It’s killing me! Help is appreciated!

Try to install the game outside Program Files directory and see if this helps. Also, may I ask which version of the game do you have?

Thanks, it’s whatever the latest version is on the Splash Damage website. I finally got the game working last night and played on a server (called TeamMuppet VIETNAM) for the first time in years! Sadly, it appeared to be full of nothing but bots. I know people still play the game. Any recommendations as far as servers with actual human beings?
