Yeah, and that’s why we also need to restrict the sidewards movement, because the advantage is too high. You can still move, but just very very slow.
Duck spam in combat
Slower sidewards movement will neither make the spectators enjoy the fights more, nor will it be more difficult to use…
shouldn’t you be concerned about the enjoyment of the player and not the spectator
You guys are funny!
See the game got already stripped of everything which looks strange, so why not that crouching too. Btw rejoy I bet we are gona have smart movement soon enough.
I haven’t had any problems with people crouching or crouching in general so idk what to say…
How about we stop flaming each-other.
I think its an interesting idea although I disagree with it. I think once a more advanced movement system is put into place we will see more variety in the way people handle their in-game combat which is a very good thing to be honest. If people were not able to crouch and shoot without penalty the game would be even more clunkier than it is now, and it would be even more point and shoot than it is now; e.g. boring.

Well that’s what I think, there are enough slow-ass shooters out there where it can be claimed to have remove those things for the sake of not looking ridiculous, but really, do we need yet ANOTHER game that handles the same as everything else? Xt has a chance to mix things up and breathe new life into ‘tactical shooters’, but making it just like everything else isn’t going to do that. Also becoming a poor imitation is just going to drive players back to the game they love that does it better. Do something different SD, stop trying to conform, throw your hands in the air run around like a child and have the most fun evar!
How does crouch spam really make the game any faster?
I think the game does a lot of things different btw. It just isn’t ET and that is what has people down. It is much more like a mix between old school hipfire and an ADS shooter. I think they were aiming for that from the beginning.
You are right in that it is a poor imitation… like it should be I hope it wasn’t trying to imitate…
Leave crouching as is.
It’s completely normal and is definitely not counter-intuitive for new players. New players will most likely not be new to FPS games. Crouching is a fundamental method of movement in FPS. I appreciate you’re providing a constructive way to “balance” crouching, but I don’t think it needs balanced. I also found a couple of flaws in your solution:
People normally use crouch to tighten the spread, changing this will confuse people even more often than not.
Monitoring the taps is going to be difficult as some users will use toggle and some will just have it as hold. Those using toggle will be pressing the crouch key at a much higher rate than those not.
I never said it was making it faster, however changing it to accommodate a personal gripe will slow the game down. If SD are happy further annoying the golden oldies then sure go for it, but I don’t really see a problem with it, and once again it seems to be a superficial reason rather than an actual game affecting one… far too many people are getting offended by ‘looks’ these days for my liking.
I noticed DuckFama plays really sneaky. He kills 1 or 2 by camping somewhere. If taking to much damage he runs like a chicken and waits for his health to regen.
I really think this kind of play style should be banned. So please disable health regen! XD
The mental age of some of the posters on here is depressingly low.
I couldn’t care less if health regen was removed, it wouldn’t affect me any more than it would affect other players. The same is true for crouch spam, the reasoning for the suggestion in the OP has nothing to do with any problems performing on my part. That should be obvious to anyone who’s played against me or seen my k/d ratios on pub and in pugs.
It would be based on activation taps, not deactivation taps. I think we’ve run out of useful things to say in this thread at this point. The suggestion has been made, counter-arguments have been raised, and SD will decide if it’s a good idea or not.
The suggestion made is this thread is not a good one because it’s merely addressing a symptom of a wider problem. The problem was very well described in this thread :-
http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/37580-Speed-vs-TTK
At the moment, the gun-play in XT doesn’t entirely match the speed of the game. Crouch spamming wouldn’t be an issue if the TTK were even faster than it is, indeed movement in gun-fights only matters if the gun-fights last long enough for movement to make a difference to the outcome. But if movement does make a difference, the gun-fights need to last long enough for the randomness that movement adds (which it does, you can’t predict an opponents change of direction, nor he yours) to be counter-acted.
This is why games like ET, with long gun-fights and lots of movement, and games like CS, with little movement and short gun-fights, are both “skilled” and yet completely different in execution.
XT needs to decide which of those routes it wants to take, because at the moment I suspect the Devs want to take the CS / COD / BF route of short gun-fights where twitch aim and positioning matter more than the tracking based aim of the longer ET style gun-fights, but they’ve let themselves be talked into compromising that position by the fact the majority of players here are ex-ET / ET:QW. In some ways, SD have invited the wrong people to help them make this game, because the game they want(ed) to make isn’t the game the majority here want them to make, or thought they were being invited to help make.
Personally I don’t mind which of those routes they take. When there’s no-one playing XT I split my time between DOD (Day of Defeat) and UrT (Urban Terror), 2 old games I’ve been playing for many years. DOD is much slower than XT, UrT is much faster, but both work because the gun-play fits the speed. For the gun-play in XT to fit the speed SD either need to keep the speed the same and make the guns more lethal, or increase the speed and make the guns less lethal, because at the moment they’re not quite right for each other.
Once again I agree with Kendle, SD need to decide what they want to do and go with it instead of making a compromised hybrid that doesn’t work. I know which one I would prefer they took, we already have CoD/BF/CS and don’t need another, but at the end of the day a decision needs made and settled upon we can stop trying to convince them which route to take and start accepting it.
Maybe the current direction is the direction they want to take it in? So we’re all just making unnecessary noise, but it feels good to try and convince yourself otherwise
