Door Problems

([rD]MrPink) #1

OK, 3 of my doors are walk-thru. You can’t open them, but you can walk straight through them (No, I’m not so stupid I’m in spectator mode). Any idea why? And on the subject of doors, is there a way to make a door so that it only opens one way?

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #2

well it would be darn stupid if you couldnt go throught doors, func_explosive in spec mode, since you can open doors manually in sped mode, and if you need to spectate inside a building you go through the door :stuck_out_tongue:

([rD]MrPink) #3

I JUST SAID I’M NOT IN SPEC MODE. AND I ALSO MADE IT FAIRLY CLEAR THAT YOU DON’T OPEN THEM, YOU JUST GO THROUGH THEM. WALK STRAIGHT THROUGH THE BRUSHES.

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #4

:???: remake the door, are you using rotating or func_door

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #5

… you said you are in spectator mode…

or else your english is wrong if you are using sarcasm or saying that you arent THAT stupid that you are in spectator mode…

(SuperC) #6

try putting a clip solid on the door, that might work

([rD]MrPink) #7

well, its a func_door_rotating, and I remade them with no luck, and that english was kinda bad. I don’t see how putting in a clip brush would help, because the door would just stay closed, you can’t use it. I do have 5 sides with “nodraw” on them, and 1 side with an Alpha texture, could that have an effect on the door?

([rD]MrPink) #8

I just turned he 5 nodraw textures into clips, and you can’t go through it now (except for specs, like its supposed to be) but players cannot open it. WTF?

(damocles) #9

Why have you made 5 sides clip? You really should texture all sides of a door because they open and so people can see almost every side.

And the reason they can’t open it is because clip brushes only stop walking not using - if that makes sense. Caulk will allow people to open the door, but I still suggest using a normal texture on all sides.

And if you want a door to only open from one side, give it targetname, create a func_invis_user on the side you want to be usable and target it to the door.

([rD]MrPink) #10

Well, the door is a lattice type thing, so it would look pretty funny. I’ll try caulking to see if that works then. Thanx.

(Lockeownzj00) #11

I don’t see what the problem is. It should be super easy. Just make the “block,” then make it func_door_rotating.

OH WAIT!

Do you have an origin brush? If it’s func_door_rotating, you need an origin–it determines where the axis of the door is. Just highlight both and make them that.

([rD]MrPink) #12

I caulked them and made two one way with the way you described, and all 3 worked, but not after a second compile only two work and one is walk-thru again. Oh, and you can still open the door from the other side, any suggestions?

(damocles) #13

Aaaah, it’s a lattice door. Whole other ball game.

Right - step one, screw the caulk and use clipmissile brushes. Step two, create a func_invis_user that is the same height/length of the door and alittle bit wider (so it covers both front and back faces). Make the invis_user target the door(s) and set it’s delay to the amount of time it takes for the door to open, wait and close (I think the default times are around 4 seconds total). Now give the invis_user a hint key with the value of hint_door_rotating. Hey presto.

You need to use missileclip so that no panzer shells/nades can go through the lattice, but bullets can. The invis_user takes care of the opening/closing problem.

([rD]MrPink) #14

OK, I will try this, and yes Lock, I do have an origin brush, I’m not that incredibly noob!

(flashkillaman) #15

how can you make a door go down?

(damocles) #16

Next to the angle keys there are two button marked up and down. Only recommended for sliding doors, not rotating

(flashkillaman) #17

thanks

The full quote would be:

And, despite of the double negation, I would read that as: “I am not in spectator mode.”

(flashkillaman) #19

is it possible to make a door only openable at one side?

([rD]MrPink) #20

supposedly, using a trigger brush.
