doom 3 multiplayer

(whoopie) #1

I have not got doom 3 yet because I have a low grade video card ati 9100.

Question how is the multiplayer. Is there anything special about multiplayer part of the game? Or should I just wait for another game to come out using the same engine.

depends how you define special. did you used to play the old doom deathmatches, or maybe quake 1? or at the very least, did you play q3 and enjoy it? d3 mp is 4 player deathmatches mostly. sounds boring but i find it pretty damned fun, you’d be surprised. but, i don’t play it much because it needs a cray supercomputer to run well. if you’d rather wait till you have a better card, i’m sure there will be some high-playercount mods out by then. in any case, i recommend you buy it at some point because a lot of people worked really hard on it and it shows

It’s pretty much what you would find in Quake 3 Arena (Death Match, Hitsounds, trickjump, no antilag) except for a few things changing the dynamics of gameplay, namely the weapon selections, smaller map space, and advanced engine technology.

Modding is mainly the interesting aspects of the MP; a lot of modders anticipate great projects coming from this engine. I know I want to make a Turkey Puncher Alpha mod

Make a Donkey Puncher mod and I’ll pre-order 10 d/loads right now :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, couldn’t resist…

why do the americans get it first whats so special about them :frowning:

hey just wait for the unreal3 engine

hey just wait for the unreal3 engine

Yeah lets wait till 2007!! HELL NO

DOOM 3 is a SinglePlayer game, so if you want a good MP on the new engine then you should wait a few months, meanwhile you can have fun with Enemy Territory

possibly because Id is an american company? i wouldn’t expect a british company to release their products in america before they did at home…

Im not a hgue fan of the MP. None of my freinds are either really, while its fun at a lan and whatnot, i dont enjoy playing it to pass the time. The game was realy all about SP, MP wasnt teh thing that anyone cared about really.

yeh, to be honest i’ve basically put the game in my desk drawer to wait for a pc upgrade, which i don’t intend to do till longhorn and intel 64 bit come along. by then there will prolly be 1024 gfx cards anyway. i “cheated” and skipped ahead and loaded all the d3 maps, spawned all the enemies, took screenshots, enjoyed the eye candy… but i won’t likely be finishing sp or playing any mp. just can’t tolerate the low framerates and i refuse to reduce the eye candy anymore, as that’s more or less the point of the game.

actually right now i’m just waiting for steam to gimme the cs:s beta test…

If you want to play Doom 3 on Ultra High Quality, you’ll need to hook up 2 GeForce 6800s through an SLI.

Multiplayer is crap. It’s only deathmatch(and its usual variations) and there are only 5 stock maps, even though I’m sure a lot of customs are gonna be out soon. Wherever I go I hear all kinds of crap about “going back to the classics” and other BS like that to justify the lack of game modes, but if you ask me those are just a bunch of excuses to the fact that they simply didn’t bother with it at all. I mean if you gonna ask people to cough up 55 bucks for your game, at least have the decency to give em something that they can play for more than a week.
Didn’t care much for the single player either. 20 hours of the same dark hallway over and over and over and over… Had way more fun playing painkiller or farcry.

Anyway…I’m sure a lot of people will disagree with me but that’s just my 2 cents.

P.S. whoopie you sig if fucking hilarious. I laughed my ass off for 5 min looking at that thing.

Nope. You can play perfectly well on ultra quality with a new generation video card. All you need is a good system with 1GB of fast RAM for the swapping. I personally have no problem with ultra on high-res (even with AA).

It would be dumb to wait for a 512MB card or a SLI setup for this game, it’s not necessary and you need a looking glass to see the difference between high and ultra anyway.

well playing perfectly well and having a bearable framerate might not be mutual. i can “play” it, but it sucks. i have a gig of pc2700 ddr and an fx5600 with 256 ddr, and i can tell u that my box may as well be a commodore. obviously my pc is low end these days but jesus it aught to be enough. i cant tolerate less than 30 fps, and less than 40 starts to suck in my opinion. i get about 10 fps on ultra, with aa and af off.

I’m sure you noticed the “'new generation videocard” and “fast RAM” in my post

:frowning: ouch…

My computer runs D3 easy. You guys would cry if you saw my specs
