What can I say guys, fantastic news if it’s true, congrats. Great catch for such a new (but clearly talented) developer, I’m sure it’ll be fanatstic.

Congrats Splash Damage !! :rocker:

Maybe you could give your forum readers a demo?

oh dear…

congratulations to SD, i guess

i do have some reservations - i am not sure that you guys are not a bit biased in how you develop - coming from a Q3F and ET background, 2 class based and massivly teamplay orientated mods. and then doom 3 which should be the mindless carnage quake and doom series were…

hopefully, you wont fall victim to your own temptations

then doom 3 which should be the mindless carnage quake and doom series were…

You clearly never saw the review with Todd wossname of ID about the new doom3 engine and multiplayer possibilities… It seems the doom3 engine is too heavy going for most machines to be able to handle “high-speed” multiplayer. The deathmatch is being designed as a slower paced, less action orientated and more strategy base affair. So even if you want fast-paced Q3 style DMs, you ain’t getting it.

Not that I care - HL2 is going to wipe the floor with D3. (flame on!)

well one could argue that duels are 90% strategy and 10% aim

still, you can play as slow or as agressive as you like in any game, as long as the game allows and supports agression (although, mortar duels in ET are fun)

I’m just looking forward to an indoor multiplayer shooter again - I much prefer the UTR/Q3 style MP shooters to the outdoor snipefests we get these days. :\

(Sick Boy) #7

I hope this doesn’t mean SD won’t have time for an ET patch :???:

(system) #8

I have to admit, I’m a little bit jealous on you guys.
Have fun with the MP-Part.
But please not to dark.

hahhaa lmao…you’ll get just as many updates/patches as Q3F.

Not that I care, since I’m not fond of deathmatch games anyway, and games where you shoot at monsters and aliens don’t do it for me anymore, so SP is out of the question too.

I MIGHT get doom 3 or HL2, depends what the multiplayer is like, and what sort of FPS I’ll get on my comp (I need the money for other things ATM, so I can’t upgrade till after christmas at least)

(LaVaGoD) #11

YEAH BABY!

Go SD Team you own me like a box of frocks!

(Sauron|EFG) #12

It won’t have anything to wipe with until next year though, according to this:

I think that a 2004 release will help ID more than any amount of fancy graphics. By the time D3 comes out, HL2 will have been out for around 6 months, so the wow factor will be dying down. Of course, there are other games coming out with fancy graphics, so D3 will have a lot to contend with. And of course, Valve are talking about releasing tons of mod tools as soon as HL2 is out, meaning that 6 months after release, mods might be springing up - mods like counter-strike 2 and Day of Defeat - which could put the nail in the D3 coffin.

regardless, I think they’ll do stupidly well though simply because of the name. It could be pac-man with C64 graphics and it’d sell thousands simply because it would be in the D3 box with ID slapped on it. But it could become the beginning of the end. Ever since Q2, there have been murmurings among the plebs about how ID are all technology and no pizazz. If Doom3 doesn’t deliver an amazing game alongside the impressive technology, then those murmurings will start to gain ammunition. A lot of the more casual ID fans will become disillusioned and look elsewhere for there action fix.

I believe the reason shrub and bani have the source code is so that they can be in charge of fixing bugs, while SD can go and work on new projects. When those mods are released, it’ll probably be very difficult to find a server not running one or the other.

No, it’s not funny at all, but unfortunatelly likely to happen.

I’ll be there at the QuakeCon… Hope it’s something we can all play on our machines, and not something like a booth presentation - that’d suck.

If it’s a booth presentation, expect it to be leaked before the con is over.

Silly goose… it’s HL2 vs. D3

Don’t worry, we can hug it out later

Oh god, SD making D3 maps?

Going by the incredibly unbalanced maps in ET and the fact that their maps in both RtCW and ET are woeful for clan play, I shudder to imagine what they’ll make for D3.

Run 5 minutes to find an enemy in a TDM game… yay.

(skybuck) #20

Kinda weird.

SplashDamage was not good enough for ET lol and now they are good enough for DOOM III multiplayer ? lol.

What is that all about ?!
