Don't be too harsh with new players.

By the way, the lobby shuffle seems to struggle with strong level gaps. As long as players are in the same level bracket (for example, all the players above level 40), it does pretty well -at the exclusive condition that the server remains full or 1/2 joining during the lobby-, but when you start to have level 7 mixed with 40+, it gets pretty messed up.

If you’re talking about game starting with team shuffled as 5v7 or even 5v8, yeah it’s pretty weird how the game handle player’s skill level. And no, this isn’t because of leavers or anything, the lobby sometimes lock itself before loading map with complete uneven teams.

the game shuffles all players based on the performance in last match in that server.
the more you play, the more it balanced out.

pretty good idea…
…if the players are locked in the same server forever.

the CMM is probably the extension of the shuffle algorithm in the normal servers.

IT IS already. CMM and lobby shuffle use a hidden public elo system, which is based on your last n games (10 IIRC), using K/Dr, score/min and possibly your win/loss ratio. SD mentioned it multiple times in the past.

That said, this implies an important factors which are forgotten by 95% of public server population :

  • You have to join the server prior to map selection during the lobby on public servers to make sure it takes into account your pub elo ranking
  • The more you stay on a same server with the same players, the more refined the shuffle should become (as your current session will take more place in your public ELO)

The interesting point here is how often players change servers. Currently, I see a significant part of players pretty much changing server after each match, wrecking their own gaming experience, especially if they join a server after the game started.

Why are they changing servers ?

  • People with too much level difference, bad balance between each team (but their behaviour is generally contradictory…)
  • Bad server conditions

So, in my view, set server improvements aside, segregating newcomers from experienced players is a MUST right now to ensure that most players will stay play consecutive games on a same server, have a more fun experience according to their skill, and needless to say, reduce the harshness.

And give a credit incentive to do so (+n% Credits for each consecutive game played).

EDIT : just saw that post :

that kind of bullcrap arguments in my forums, thank you.**

Nothing related to your post, but I just felt that response was a tad threatening. Anyway…

I just viewed a new player’s Twitch stream and I am appalled by the way his game was going. His framerate was so unstable, half his death is due to frozen screens and choppy video.

If SD can see what a new player experience feels like, they had better start hiring people who are lateral thinkers.

Give newcomers a 90° FoV, and lower the default graphic settings. Mandatory so they can at least understand more quickly.

Multiple posts removed.

I have no clue how that conversation reached the godwin point and started on a whole off topic debacle about jewish people, Hitler and stuff, but I don’t want that kind of bullcrap arguments in my forums, thank you.

I always miss all the fun…

Don’t kick new players just because they’re new. I’ve been in dozens of games where higher level players kick lower levels for the simple fact that they are a very low level, and the higher levels want a better player on the team. How are new players supposed to feel when they get kicked for the sheer reason of not playing earlier? Or how are they just supposed to play in general if they get kicked from every other game?
I know a lot of us don’t do this, but for the one’s that do… well don’t. That ain’t cool.

Personally, I will continue to kick them. The issue only come from SD who don’t give us min level 30 servers, then we have to do it ourselves.

Your just preventing new players from enjoying the game. Worst case scenario is they leave and never come back because they always get kicked.Try to atleast give them a chance at the game rather than kicking them off straight away. Also I’m pretty sure there used to be min 20 servers but I have no idea what happened to them.

@K1X455 Most twitch stream don’t show the game off at its best and use configs to improve the FPS , wonder how many see someones stream and think game doesn’t look that good thinking it’s the default graphics and think pass ?

@Splicerrr : This only happen when there is lots of high players and few low players. And I’m not sure they enjoy to do 0/20 anyway…

I play Dirtybomb to (try to) have fun, not to do babysitting. Players retention is Splash Damage’s problem, not mine.

Min 20 servers were removed when they released CMM, that’s a big mistake.
