Not giving ammo after being asked half a million times in chat -> idiot.
Not knowing every nook and cranny of a map -> new player. Are you trying to pretend that the default UI is good and that new players notice that tiny little square in the bottom left that displays “Ammo!” in a generic size 8 font that’s directed at no specific player?
There is a whole tutorial segment about this very feature. Really hard to miss.
To be fair I get callvote kicked more than I see new players getting kicked because “omg high level hacker turn off the aimbot pls”
It kind of goes both ways.

Look mum, I’m on YouTube! <3
Hello.
Kick vote
Personally I never intend to kick new players for not giving ammo. However the kick vote has a different affect: You launch the vote and sometiems such situations happen:
Newb:Why this spammer wants to kick me?
Me: Press “E” pidor
*Presses “E”
Newb: Wow, what did i just do? Is that what u wanted?
Me:v43
Nothing works better to attract an attention than a kick vote.
Something SD could do here:
Pub balance
Honestly there is something wrong with it. It’s the subject for a separated forum topic, but i’ll adress some issues here. For some reason system tends to put all low levels in same team, so as higher lvls to bunch up in same team.
Higher levels abuse “go obs->join team” thingy so they actually get to look at team set ups and make their own choice: obviously not a team full of low lvls. New players sit in lobby and wait those annoying 15 seconds to get into the team system put they were put.
Vote system
Shuffle is a questionable thing. What’s the point in shuffle when last objective is being done in a “just started game” or 2-3 minutes before stopwatch ends? Makes no sence and yet those votes appear again and again and sometimes pass. All it does is annoys people because of simple problem: it doesn’t restart a game. This is a reason why i never vote for it even if I will have to play 5v8 in team with newbs. Not like those newbs know how to do a vote. I had a situation when the stacked team had to vote “for” entirely to make the shuffle happen over me and my newbie band.
If SD adds another “Shuffle with restart” vote, it would be much better.
Leavers
This is a curse of pub stopwatch when people leave in 2d round and it turns into a 10 min spawn camp. And usually it ends when the stacked team spawncamps the newb team. Not rare to see newbs complaining with “Is it fun for you” or “Balance it please!” ect.
In 1st round it could be solved with “Shuffle and restart vote”. In 2d round it could be fixed with “Surrender” and “Draw vote”.
Low lvl Vassili/Aimee/Phantom
This thing makes me mad. I remember times when Vassili had only 30k cost and 99% of new players bought him at level 4. SD fixed it by readjusting merc costs, but yet this just moves the problem at from lvl 4 to lvl 6.
Not much to do here. If somebody wants to play sniper, he will do it. But if we manage to convince people to switch from Vassili to something usefull, why not do that at the stage of buying first merc? Add the simple green text “Recommended for new players” to Stoker/Sawbones/Bush ect and red text “Not recommended for new players” to Vassili, Aimee, Sparks ect.
I really hope this wall of text will not go unnoticed by SD.
The problem currently is that Dirty Bomb does not convey information too well. Players do not have an opportunity to try out mercs in an offline or practice environment where there really should be, especially given the kinds of mercs there are, from a molotov-themed Mr. Foster, to a sniper with a snitch. Moreover, the majority of new players have absolutely no clue that Engineers are Objective Specialists, and that they can do objectives much faster than everyone else in the game. The problem isn’t them, though.
The problem is the game not conveying this necessary information to the players.
I had no idea Phantom could EMP things around him until it came around… in free rotation. Before that, I was absolutely stunned that my things wouldn’t work and genuinely thought my game was bugged. This situation needs to be remedied ASAP, it will help with player retention, and more importantly, we’ll have players who know what their merc does. Even something as simple as Help Tips when playing mercs in-game, similar to how Overwatch has them when you die, that tell you about the hero you use or the hero that killed you. Not necessarily spoonfeeding, but enough to cover the basics of what a merc is meant to do and what their abilities entail.
Lastly, we cannot see the levels of players, so people generally assume they’re just bad, and not learning the game. I played as Vasili today, trying to work on my aim, and I got called out for being bad. I mean, yeah. The point is to not be bad, and the only way to do it is to practice.
The biggest problem right now is the lack of place to gather for experienced players. If we had more community servers or min level 10/20, veterans would usually join those while newcomers would go on “official” SD ran servers. Both sides communicating with each other when players want to have proper challenge/some randomness once in a while.
Everytime we successfully fill the AIE server (which is FF on AND min level 10), we have a better experience than on a random stopwatch pub server. Mainly because we don’t get angry on half a team of level 6 or get no fun smashing them.
This is the forced mix between casual players and 4 years of playing DB veterans that causes the biggest pain here.
Sadly, that was bound to happen when they removed min level servers.
And no, the addition CMM and ranked did not help. Most of the players, veterans and newcomers included, will use the server browser if there is one in a game.

Don’t kick new players just because they’re new. I’ve been in dozens of games where higher level players kick lower levels for the simple fact that they are a very low level, and the higher levels want a better player on the team. How are new players supposed to feel when they get kicked for the sheer reason of not playing earlier? Or how are they just supposed to play in general if they get kicked from every other game?
I know a lot of us don’t do this, but for the one’s that do… well don’t. That ain’t cool.
Personally, I will continue to kick them. The issue only come from SD who don’t give us min level 30 servers, then we have to do it ourselves.
You know what really ticks me off? When everyone on my team is level 7 or below and the other team has 33, 34 , 78 , 42 and only one person below level 10 and they decide not to shuffle. It was frustrating to deal with the low levels but i don’t mind them being in my game as long as they’re spread evenly between teams.
Just when you thought @TheStrangerous posted the most disturbing thing today…
By the way, the lobby shuffle seems to struggle with strong level gaps. As long as players are in the same level bracket (for example, all the players above level 40), it does pretty well -at the exclusive condition that the server remains full or 1/2 joining during the lobby-, but when you start to have level 7 mixed with 40+, it gets pretty messed up.

If you’re talking about game starting with team shuffled as 5v7 or even 5v8, yeah it’s pretty weird how the game handle player’s skill level. And no, this isn’t because of leavers or anything, the lobby sometimes lock itself before loading map with complete uneven teams.

the game shuffles all players based on the performance in last match in that server.
the more you play, the more it balanced out.
pretty good idea…
…if the players are locked in the same server forever.
the CMM is probably the extension of the shuffle algorithm in the normal servers.

I have no clue how that conversation reached the godwin point and started on a whole off topic debacle about jewish people, Hitler and stuff, but I don’t want that kind of bullcrap arguments in my forums, thank you.

Nothing related to your post, but I just felt that response was a tad threatening. Anyway…
I just viewed a new player’s Twitch stream and I am appalled by the way his game was going. His framerate was so unstable, half his death is due to frozen screens and choppy video.
If SD can see what a new player experience feels like, they had better start hiring people who are lateral thinkers.
It’s impossible…
Even in regulated sports like football (soccer? Eh, don’t care, buncha boring stuff.) there’s saltyness. It’s the disgusting competitive-aggressive human side, which cannot be tamed.

My bad. Made a joke I probably shouldn’t have, and it ended up going the wrong way. Sorry.
