Regardless of if he is balanced or not, does the addition of Phantom make the game more enjoyable to play?
Does Phantom make the game more fun?
Well I noticed people aren’t going off on their own anymore, people are sticking together and watching each other’s backs while they push…so…doesn’t that mean Phantom is doing a good job of punishing uncoordinated teams?
I like having phantoms in my team as well as enemy team, why?
Because when there is a phantom, people tend to STICK together than randomly running off !
Also i could ask (or do it myself) phantom to go kill that bloody sparks that is annoying us !
They just need to nerf that damage absorption. Just remove it so he’s squishy like the spy in TFC and job done. Basically, if he remains unnoticed, you die. If he gets noticed, he dies. At the moment that’s not the case. That shield means he can rush into a whole group and take one or two down before he’s dead.
Yes, the shield needs to go, atm its unintelligent play. Hide, smash, get spotted, shield run away repeat.
SD back to there normal tricks again tbh.
It’s not like I’m raging at about he kills everyone, but his play style is just so vastly different from Dirty Bomb, that it just makes the game feel weird and icky. It’s uncomfortable for me whenever I play as him AND against him.
More Mercs, more options, more diverse gameplay. And enforcing better awareness/teamplay. I like it. Sure could use some tweaks and all. And I can understand people that prefer a classical shooter experience, but there are tons of that out there. And the LOLesque Merc structure just lends itself to an ever evolving meta.
I wouldn’t really say it’s less fun just by virtue of him being in. It gets frustrating more often, though, which isn’t fun. Marginally less fun, maybe.
If you have less than 300 hours of gameplay accrued your voice should not matter, balancewise.
So, yeaaaaaaaaaaa.
(Working under the assumption that you set your avatar to your favorite merc ofc :>)
I enjoy both playing as and against Phantoms. Catching them trying to sneak up on team-mates and killing them is just so rewarding. It’s like headshotting snipers with the REVIVR.
It’s more fun when you’re playing Phantom. Otherwise it’s a bit of a grind.
Phantom fills kind of an awkward roll atm. He plays like a insane madman right now because of his damage shield but should be playing more carefully. SD implemented his shield to complement the addition of gaining points for blocking shots for allies (check twitch.tv/splashdamageltd/v/7079924 for source, the quote is by Exedore around the half way mark or after). I highly doubt the shield will remain unchanged or exist if splash damage needs to nerf him.
I’ve said it a million times to you folks, I’m a casual player so my opinion can be taken with pounds of salt, but honestly I don’t really feel like the game’s that much different. Hah, plus I play with a friend a lot, and so we decided that whenever one of us spots a Phantom or one is coming up behind us, the codeword is “LET IT RIP!” to let the other one know. Then I play the theme song, then we sing the theme song as we get torn apart from behind… Hahah, good times actually. That’s just me.

He’s also a really good counter against rhino players.
Rhino actually destroys him if he’s not blind. If he gets flanked then yeah he might die, he shouldn’t be getting flanked as a Rhino.
I enjoy phantoms. Sure I almost never kill him one on one, but it makes me more aware of my surroundings then before. Do I get frustrated when I get killed out of nowhere ? Sure, but doesnt mean, he is not fun to play against. Everytime I get killed by him, I say to myself, that I was careless and should be better.
However playing phantom, I am noob getting killed all the time xD
Phantom has negatively impacted this game for me.
There’s nothing fun about being knifed all the time. Even when these Phantoms play my team I’m aghast at how much reward they reap for so little effort.
Nobody should have to purchase a merc to keep around as a direct counter to another. That’s a recipe for a poor game.
