Does Kevlar Vest (soldier passive) do anything?

(Smokeskin) #21

I personally think that infinite ammo, molotovs, flashbangs, more and better frags, and kevlar is much more powerful than the medic self buff and healing.

(Spectre-7) #22

It’d be nice if the text perhaps reflected the actual in-game effect.

(vbl) #23

Most players worth their salt (and who have specced into Medic a bit) would disagree with you. It’s fine that you like soldier better, but most objective measures point to Medic being superior in the combat role.

(Smokeskin) #24

I thought it was because of reviving and buffing team mates they were thought to be more powerful.

(Glyph) #25

When fixing this issue will it be possible to add the Kevlar icon for the Soldier that has a point invested in Kevlar Armor?

(db0) #26

It does seem to me as well that the Soldier’s Kevlar ability doesn’t work, I die with it just as fast as without it, and engineers can still give me kevlar even though they shouldn’t be able to.

(BlueEmu) #27

I think I’m having a “Derp” moment here. What exactly was intended again?

(Shadowcat) #28
Soldier and Engineer Kevlar are two different things, and they both do work. If you have both applied, you get a 50% reduction on the 2nd buff.

Armor Piercing Ammo ignores all armour buffs.
Since hes implying whats intended is the opposite of whats said in game.

(KingDavid73) #29

personally, I didn’t really notice that much, if any, difference using the passive ability. Whatever the protection, it’s pretty low.

(Ero-Sennin) #30

I got a soldier spec, got all the soldiers abilities and yeah it works! Being buffed on damage from engy plus the kevlar, buffed on health plus metabolism from medic and AP ammo plus kevlar from soldier class, ive been there and let me tell you how one-man army you feel! It is quite powerful for one player plus having the nade spams, OMG!!! Ive made players run to their mother’s lap…
I understand there is additional work associated with releasing and updating such information.

Couldn’t you just stop hiding the stats from the game code? There are people out there who would gladly take all that info, sift through it, make clear and concise presentations, and update the info with every patch.

If you don’t want to make it public, I’m sure some of the people who have a history of running such web sites would be honored to receive the info from you exclusively and still do it for free.

I must say, as a player I find it highly annoying when the game hides important mechanics from me, that are very difficult and time consuming to test. I would rather have spent 2 hours playing instead of shooting at walls, estimating bullet spread angles and recoil recovery time.
^This or rewrite a page of valid info so it isnt in code format and post it and keep it up to date.

How hard could it possibly be to change the text in game to match what is implemented. I’ve sifted thru 100’s of files of code just to change text when scripting for another game, and with the correct tools it takes a matter of minutes especially if you know what you are looking for.

I hate to seem smug, but with all the little things that just seem to keep piling up it is getting rather frustrating trying to stay happy with the product. Don’t get me wrong I digg the shizzzle out of the gameplay and it has or had (however you want to look at it) some really strong potential.

(Rockhound) #32

The description ingame says it upgrades the ammo you are giving your mates and yourself. Otherwhise the german translation is wrong. I would try the english one but if i set up my PS3 to english i got french instead of english

(Shadowcat) #33

Armor Piercing Ammo upgrades the ammunition you supply yourself with, making it 100% effective against enemies who have the Kevlar Armor buff. However you cannot supply your teammates with the upgraded ammo, only yourself.

This is the exact wording from the game.

(Ero-Sennin) #34

yup armor piercing is for the soldier only, you cant give it to your teammates, but you can still buff them with an additional clip if you got that perk

(Exedore) #35

It brings to mind the Tower of Babel, and the human tendency for linguistic variation. We just can’t make things easy!

(Thatgingerkid) #36

Well lets be honest here, releasing weapon and perk damage and damage reduction isn’t(and shouldn’t) be top priority for the SD Team right now. No offense, but as much as I love the game, I think we can all agree there are some things wrong with the game still.
Changing the text may not be hard, but its just one more thing to add to a list. And the longer that list, the longer it will take.
Also for whether or not its worth it to take medic buffs or both armor upgrades; for the sake of the arguments lets go with this. Assuming you as a player have Battle hardened(BH), play a Medium class(140 hp), both armor buffs offer 10% so you have 20% damage reduction, the medics has double buffs, and the gun your opponent is using is the un-engy buffed Gerund assault rifle.
Five shots from the gerund to the chest does 150 damage, with neither kevlar buff and the double medic buff. This would leave you with 65 HP. 3 more shots and you are dead.
With both Kevlar buffs, five shot from the Gerund will do 120 damage. Now since you have no hp buff except for BH, this will leave you with 50 HP. 3 more shots and you are dead.
Now if you have both the double medic buff AND the double kevlar buffs, then took five rounds from the gerund to the chest, you would still have 95 HP. This would take another 4 shots to kill you.
Point being, team work is paramount! Get all the health and all the buffs you can from teammate and return the favor.

If my math is wrong, feel free to correct my stupidity. The kevlar buff numbers are hypothetical, so this isn’t an end-all-be-all. Even 1% would throw things outta wack. Also not including the leg shots and headshots. Too much math, and I didn’t even take Algebra II if high school…

(Lu-Tze) #37

I have a question about armor piercing ammo:
Do you actually have to supply your self with bullets (i.e. give your self ammo) after each death to get the effect or do you use them automatically?

(Exedore) #38

It’s automatic.

(CPT C@pslock) #39

So this description is also wrong.
:stuck_out_tongue:

(wolfnemesis75) #40
So this description is also wrong.
:P
It seems like some of the abilities would stack then? Engy buff + passive Kevlar?
